I can see how good natured harmless pranks can benefit a team. But nothing that causes injury or resentment.

I recall Cam Cleeland with the Saints getting hazed so bad he ended up injured his rookie year.

Yes.

But Martin has a lot more going for him than Incognito does without a doubt.

Based on that Forbes article, both the Dolphins and Incognito better hope that Martin isn't done.

I agree it doesn't look good for him though.

you know Goodell will punish the hell out of Incognito.

Martin didn't do himself any favors the way he handled the situation. Why not take a stand for yourself?

what is the worst thing that could happen? You get beat up in the locker room in a fist fight with the guy?

pretty much

all the hazing where guys are demanding money or humiliating a player breaks down team unity because it demonstrates those guys are about themselves first and don't really respect or care about the guys they are hazing.

sometimes the worst hazing will be from the veterans who aren't as good as the players they want to haze - a guy like Roy Williams trying to get one up on Dez Bryant comes to mind (even tho Dez is probably a giant douche-bag as well)

ironic isn't it?

Martin should make a very good living at the expense of Incognito if Martin chooses to pursue this stuff thru legal avenues (and aren't both of his parents Harvard educated lawyers?)

His mom is AGC for Toyota-North America.

I am sure he will have plenty of exposure to Civil Rights and Civil Trial attorneys in due time. I could actually maybe seeing this going an AmLaw firm way.

the team backs Incognito, none of these details come out, you're labelled a cancer and your career is over.

In a sport where you live on the edge of a cliff, it's scary as frick to do anything that might push you off.

Michael Irvin stabbed a dude in the neck with scissors one time and that Chiefs dude last year drove to the facility to kill himself after killing his girlfriend.

In the real word, there's really no upper limit to "the worst that can happen".

And, like the guy above me noted, Incognito was a starter so if Martin lays him out and puts him on the shelf for a few weeks, I'm guessing "Attaboy!"s would have been hard to find.

Done correctly, hazing can take a cocky prima donna who was the top of the heap at their high school or college and turn them into a team player who looks out for his teammates instead of looking down on them.

The problem is that the system is easily abused by assholes who see it as a way to torture, or profit from, the new guys.

yeah, true.

we don't know the whole story.

that was just my thoughts when I heard some of the things he said to him.

I mean I think it is up to Martin though to change his attitude a little bit and not make himself a target. He seems like a smart guy, why not find a way to make it work.

when I watched America's Game about the 1983 L.A. Raiders, Todd Christensen was one of the narrators. He was from this intellectual family kind of like Martin is. He found a way to connect with his teammates ands they had a barrage of characters on that squad.

Even Marcus Allen and Howie Long pointed out how different he was than the rest of them, yet he found his niche among them.

I think both sides need to remember this, even the ones defending Martin.
