Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the deal with Big 10 schools all playing that riff from White Stripe's Seven Nation Army and the fans singing it?

Do they all just love that song?
Is there some contractual agreement between the Big 10 and the Stripes?

What the hell?

I've always wondered the same thing. What were their traditions before that song was around?

It's not just a Big Ten thing; it seems to have permeated the entire Midwest. MAC schools play it, MVC schools play it. Hell, I even heard it played during a Mount Union game and a local high school game this season. The playing of Seven Nation Army and the ringing of a bell over the PA system before 3rd down have become epidemics in this region.

Midwest folks, by their very nature, have no sense of style and no culture of note. Hell they still think the Rose Bowl is the biggest bowl game of the year and that Michigan vs. Ohio State is the most important rivalry in all of sports.

That Nelly song would be cheesy even for Little League World Series coverage. However, still better than the Little Drummer Biebs.

I grab the remote when Bieber comes on. I don't get the need to play music during a football game. Put the game on, run those dman 3g 4g Gigabytes commercials to death but enough with the music.

He might be in a different time zone.

Not to mention, as I get older, I care less and less about New Years Eve.
