And for a couple years, weren't they bigger than the Avs?

In 1994, I'd bet New York looked like this:
Knicks > Giants > Yankees > Rangers > Mets > Nets > Jets > Devils > Islanders
Not in '94 - Rangers and then the rest
That was the year 1940 was put to rest.

Are you basing this just on recent success? Pretty sure anybody I've talked to from Phoenix was a Suns fan first. It was just a couple of years ago that that Cardinals couldn't fill up their stadium, and Cowboys fans would outdraw the home fans. I don't there's any question it's Suns > all else.
I don't really think of the Suns as having much support, but then again, I really don't think of any Phoenix team as having a lot. The Coyotes are on the verge of moving, the Cardinals' attendance is bad, and it doesn't seem like the Backs/Suns have a ton of interest. And for Miami, I actually think the Panthers are 3rd, ahead of the Marlins, which says a lot. I don't think Heat/Dolphins support is that huge, either. I think Miami and Phoenix are probably the two worst sports towns that have the four major sports.

I can't imagine that the Rangers were ahead of the Knicks when the Knicks won the East.

its also due to so many people from other parts of the country moving there and filling the seats in away jersey. Perfect example was in this years playoffs when the wings scored an empty net goal octopus was thrown on the ice in phoenix

Knicks would have been ahead had they won it all but NYR in 7 for the cup...first time since 1940. The city was crazy that spring with the Knicks and Rangers going as far as they did but the Rangers had the parade in the end.

Based on what? They consistently have great home crowds during the regular season. And mentioning that the Coyotes and Cards don't have great support proves that the Suns are #1.

The Suns are the only phoenix area team that has any consistant support
Cities that have large growth from outside like Phoenix will always have weak local sports cultures

Caps are ahead of the Nats. Nobody gives a shite about the Nats up here.

If the Knicks get Lebron the city will go crazy. and yeah 1994 was the year for the end of 1940.
New Jersey teams shouldn't even be mentioned with NY teams because no one in Ny cares about them. The Icelanders have been hated for years in the City since Potvin sucks days.

I never said the Suns weren't #1. I didn't know if they had great support or not, just that I never really have heard that they had.

JEAUXBLEAUX, I live in Brooklyn, and I'm closer to the Prudential Center than I am to Yankee Stadium or Citi Field. They're all in the same market.

No kidding but listen to WFAN. They talk basketball 99% Knicks and only Evan Roberst talks about the Nets. All they ever say is Kicks Lebron and sometimes Lebron Knicks. I will admi they mentioned and interviewed the new Net owner last week
Hockey Rangers 95% a litle Devils and even less islanders
Prudential Ctr is a great place, good parking and that part of Newark is OK
By the way going to see Bon Jovi Wed at the new stadium. My kids got us tickets but I supposed to be suprised with early Fathers Day present
