This is what you don't get, it may be better for competition but they do not give a frick, all that matters is money. Its the same reason why we don't have a playoff. It's the same reason why the PAC 16 didn't fall through.

it really is shortsighted to say TCU doesnt bring enough TV sets..

how many big markets are there in the SEC? how does it benefit the SEC to have both Ole Miss and Miss St?

what matters, and what other conferences cant see, is the level of football being played in your conference.. play good football and your market size doesnt matter, because the whole country will be watching..

I think the Big 12 should have added BYU and TCU in the wake of the recent departures. This would preserve their lucrative championship game, keep the TV viewers in the Rocky Mountains

The conference didn't actually lose the money for the title game, that was part of the deal for keeping it together (and saving the networks from having to renegotiate until the current contracts are up). It's debatable what Colorado was bringing to the table in terms of viewership lately.

Trammel's argument is all about better football, which is fine, but he doesn't show how TCU would help the longterm financial viability of the conference.

Maybe not the tv money yet, but the conference is losing the money from not having a championship game you cant replace revenue from ticket sales, sponsors, ect.

Have you compared the market data of the various conferences? SEC doesn't have a lot of top 10 TV markets, but it has a ton of secondary and lower markets, with regional saturation and deep viewership. A lot of TV sets.

Yeah, I was talking about TV. I'm sure there's some loss to the individual schools that would have played in terms of merch, donations, etc.

No conference game and less chance of a BCS at-large= less money.

The CCG may may not make up the difference. TCU brings no new markets, so its slicing the tv pie thinner. As for less chance at an at large, as long as they have OU and UT, they have just a good a chance as they awlays did.

No, no, no. Its basica accounting man. Spliting the same amount of money 11 ways is not better than splitting it 10 ways.

BYU

Has decided to go independent. Would they have passed on that for a BCS conference? Who knows, but there are other sports besides FB and BYU won't play games on Sunday, which becomes an issue in a lot of the other sports.

The SEC wouldn't add both OM and Miss St if they were not in the SEC already or they were starting from scratch, same with Vandy. That said, its not the size of the market were the school is located. UF doesn't bring Gainesville, it brings the State of Fla. LSU gives you the entire state of La etc. What you want is to add new markets. The Big 12 already has the DFW market. Another thing TCU is small school enrollment is less than 10K, so that's a smaller alumni base than even OM, that's also part of market size.

I think TCU was the first choice of the Big 12, but Baylor got in due to political arm twisting. Adding TCU does nothing for the Big 12 at this point.

When LSU won its 2003 championship, the game was on a Sunday. What would BYU do if it gets in the championship and the game is on a Sunday? Does the NCAA make special considerations when they get into the basketball tournament to put them in the Thursday and Saturday bracket?
