Big 12 fans, why do they run so much soft zone in your conference?

Honest question. i was in Austin for the K-State game and was stunned at how much cover 4 both teams ran. Come on mix in some press

Because they want people like you to complain about it.

but it isn't just soft zones. Their safeties seem incapable of taking a good angle to the ball.

thats either poor talent or coaching, thats not a concerted philosophical decision.

It takes one hell of an athlete to consistently press. I'm not sure they have the corners to do it.

I ask myself this question every Saturday from September through the end of the season. It's frustrating as hell.

I think this is part of it, most teams in the conference don’t have the depth to consistently press on teams that run 4 and 5 wide most of the time, which most Big 12 teams do. Schools like OU and UT have the DB depth to do it though IMO

Although KState doesn’t run that offense so I don’t have an answer to OPs question

Personnel.

That’s why some DCs use the whole “bend but don’t break” of keeping everything in front, play good RZ defense and forces turnovers. That’s why it’s so volatile and boom/bust
