Lost in all these hypotheticals is Brady's contract. If Brady was traded this year his cap number shot from 14 million to 27 million

The pats choose Brady over garrappolo two seasons ago when they extended Brady

A team like the broncos wouldn't trade for Tom Brady?

You think Bill is trading Brady to a conference rival with a loaded roster?

What makes Jimmy G a sure thing to replace a GOAT type QB who is still playing at an MVP caliber level and as you said has a few good seasons left?

Jimmy is not a sure thing but he would’ve been Bill’s best chance to sustain this for another 10+ years. Bill’s philosophy has always been to replace the studs when he felt it would benefit the team in the long run. I just think that in Bill’s mind, Brady’s # came up.

Bill is in his mid 60s and has no intention of coaching into his 70s

Or he could be just try to solidify his brilliance by replacing Brady for a heavy ransom and going forward with Jimmy and still win big.

Bledsoe was on a bloated contract and Brady was outperforming him in camp and practice and was taken out by injury.

Brady hasn't missed a game due to injury since 2008 and is still playing and practicing at his 26 year old level

Bledsoe was Brady’s backup by the end of 2001

Bledsoe, Cassel, Brisstet, Mallett Jimmy G. All of his backups worth a shite get shipped out

this board notoriously loathes brady. ( I personally believe it has something to do with peyton being a new orleans native and so this board is very manning centric, but that is neither here nor there) there are members of this board who truly believe that if brady was drafted by any other team or if bledsoe hadnt got hurt he wouldve been a journeyman backup out of the league in 5 or 6 years. Its delusional hatred only matched by some for lebron

Here's the deal, BB is all about wins. He doesn't care if it's TB12 or Rojan Davey...whoever he thinks will give him the best chance to win (and win in the future) is who he is going to go with. He is a shrewd/cold business man, on top of being the best coach in NFL history.

When he saw there was minimal difference in practice between Jimmy G and TB (besides the 14 yrs), he made a business decision in the best interest of future wins for NE.

Kraft shot it down, pissed off BB, here we stand...3 alpha males butting heads. It worked for 18 years...PRIDE finally rears its ugly head (I'm a huge Pats fan and it sucks)

I don’t hate Brady. He is 40! The reality is that he can’t perform that much longer. Colts had to make a similar call when they realized they were going to get Luck in the draft.

I don’t think Jimmy will be better than Brady but I think he would be a great option for Pats going forward for the next decade.

Factually incorrect. Brady has been lights out in practice and camp for 2-3 years now. Garrappolo has not been nearly as sharp

Goes against every local sources side of the story for 6 months. Why is Seth wickerham more connected than guys whose only job is to cover the team?

was he the MVP front runner in SF?

How does that make your case at all.

Time will tell with this. Personally I find it more plausible that Jimmy G was treated the same as Brady’s previous backups.

Let’s not forget Bill is 65, who knows how much longer he plans on coaching and if he even sees himself in NE far beyond when Brady is done. That’s my own speculation.

Let’s also not forget Bill has an ego and probably thinks he can grab the next Jimmy G in the draft and plug a guy in and win like he did with Cassel in 2008

JG took a winless/talent-depleted SF team to 4-0 in his only 4 starts; he was MVP of the last 4 weeks for sure!

Look, I love Brady as much as anyone; i named my son Brady. I believe the Pats are as healthy on both sides of the ball now as they have been all year, but JG was the future, at least worth more than a 2nd round pick

naw

in the mid-00s the old media narrative of giving team stats to individual players began to be attacked by the more rational thinkers on the board

Brady was the symbol of rewarding an individual for team accomplishments

Manning was the symbol of punishing an individual for team deficiencies

they were the centerpiece of the ongoing debate (That is still going on today)

Oh wow give him a fricking trophy. Brady will be the MVP of the whole goddamn league.

He may have been the future but the timing didn't work out. Simple as that. On to the next one.

And the Browns highest offer for Jimmy was the same package they offered for McCarron. Hindsight has overvalued what Jimmys actual trade value was before he performed well this season. He was on the last year of his contract and was a relative unknown. Not many teams willing to mortgage the future and give him a big contract after a small sample size
