he's right. the yanks dont have to get primetime every single game. that's going overboard.

another reason to root for the O's though. maybe the cards (if they can advance) actually have a shot at playing in a good time slot next round.

That doesn't mean that they should get preferential treatment for EVERY SINGLE GAME OF THE PLAYOFFS. I'm not asking for anything ridiculous. Maybe just one of their 5 games could be in the middle of the afternoon. ONLY ONE. WOULD THAT HURT ANYONE?

Yes. Let's put NY on at 3 in the afternoon so the west coast can watch at lunch.

How do we know if the Nationals can attract a national audience IF THEY NEVER GET A CHANCE TO ATTRACT ONE?

They just this year pulled out of the bottom-third of attendance. If they can put asses in the seats at the stadium, what makes you think they can pull a national audience?

He's really not.

It's a business decision.

ETA: Baseball is struggling to draw ratings anyway. You really think they should help that out more by putting the less-desirable game to the public on at night? Especially on Sunday and Monday when the MLB is going up against football.

i understand. but mlb should intervene and make sure the yanks arent on at 730 for all 25 of their playoff games. that's absurd.

The new 2-3 divisional series is dumb as hell. It fricked the A's.

Of course if you're good enough to take advantage of it it's nice.. like the Reds.

Still it's stupid to have the team with "homefield advantage" sitting in a 2-0 hole in a best of 5 series before they play one home game.

You guys realize this change was made only for this year?

With the extra game added they did not have enough days to schedule the extra travel day needed in the 5 game series, so they went with the 2/3 format. It will be back to 2-2-1 next year.

Sounds like something they should have fixed. Sweet homefield advantage if the A's go out in 3 with only 1 home game.

The 2010 WS could have gone to November 4. Why was that a problem this season? Game 7 is scheduled for November 1.

this has been discussed ad naseum all season long. mlb did everything they could but it was unavoidable. i dont remember the exact reason why they ran out of days but that is what happened. im sure if you researched it you would get your exact answer but i'm too lazy to do it.

im pretty sure it had zero to do with the WS and everything to do with the LDS games being locked into certain dates.

I really don't know I just remember it being mentioned when Selig proposed to start the new format this year, that was the only snag.

One of the big baseball bloggers, maybe Buster Olney? said he was worried the format was gonna cost some poor team their season. Looks like the A's may be the one. It is unjust without a doubt, but "TV ratings" trump all nowadays.

you say preferential treatment, network folk say higher ratings.

I think it'd be great if they mixed it up, but admittedly my only involvement is as a fan and not as a money guy.

The format of the LDS has been much worse.

fans, mlb. its only 3 games now so hopefully they wont put the yankees in primetime every game. 70% of their games would be acceptable since we know it's going to be the majority anyway. but if they put them in primetime in every single game that's not good for the game.

eta: i take it back, they've already announced the start times for all 5 games if necessary. yanks are in primetime for all 5.

but if the ratings have always proved the most fans watch the yankees how is this absurd for the fans?

its not absurd for yankee fans, but fans of every other team. again 1 game out of 5 isnt asking for the world. it's not like we're saying the yanks cant be in primetime but 1 out of 5 or 2 out of 7 is pretty reasonable.
