Hot take - if Ozzie Smith is in HOF Omar Vizquel is worthy

His squad defers contracts to the year 3300 to continue buying championships yet still can't stop seething about the Astros lmao.
Altuve broke you just like he broke Jerrytheseether.
Never change, bud.

Oh, in that case. I’m all ears.
Please, by all means…spell out your case that Altuve is a borderline case with some data comparisons.
This gonna be good

Yeah Jones defense was insane
And if I recall correctly. He seemed pretty clutch at the plate in big moments. Not just racking up stats in garbage games.

It’s up to you. You made the claim, I was just giving you an opportunity to explain it. I won’t begrudge the effort.
I find it hard to believe, so I’m curious how you come to this conclusion.

Hes a whole 4 WAR off on peak WAR from the average HOF 2nd baseman
The gap in peak WAR between him and Chuck Knoblach is half of the gap between Altuve and the average 2nd baseman
Hes sandwiched between Ben Zobrist and Marcus Siemen when it comes to 2nd baseman peak WAR
The only modern 2nd baseman in the HOF who would have less peak WAR than him is Jeff Kent

I used to agree but some bad stuff came out about him - like raping little boys bad.
Posted on 1/20/26 at 9:47 pm to AUFANATL
He didn’t rape anyone, he made an autistic batboy for the Birmingham Barons wash his back in the shower. He also was accused of beating up and trying to strangle his wife, although it never went to court.

That’s funny, I was just thinking of Jeff Kent.
Altuve compares favorably there.
And Altuve is firmly entrenched all over the record books.
Elite Milestones: One of only three players in MLB history with over \(200\) HRs, \(300\) stolen bases, \(450\) doubles, and a \(.300\) batting average.
Career Stats: Over 15 seasons, he holds a \(.303\) average, \(2,388\) hits, and \(255\) home runs.
Postseason: Holds the record for most hits to start a postseason (through 2022).
It’s not just about Peak WAR

I just think calling him a virtual lock is a little much
Of those who played on those Astros teams, Verlander would be the virtual lock and is a surefire 1st balloter

I don’t think he will be first ballot but Altuve will obviously get in. Being one of the very best postseason performers in baseball history will paper over some of the other metrics being below average

Verlander is a HOF’er. But these numbers for Altuve piss on “little much”…
Postseason History: Second all-time in postseason home runs and second in postseason runs scored.
Awards: 3-time AL Batting Champion (\(2014,2016,2017\)), 2017 AL MVP, 9-time All-Star, and 7-time Silver Slugger.
Longevity & Impact: 4-time AL hits leader (\(2014–2017\)) and 4-time 200-hit season record.

But my original point was really about Beltran not having a dark cloud keeping him out.
Posted on 1/20/26 at 10:23 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Think he will get in the same way that Freddie will
Neither have the strongest statistical profiles but have strong reputations that should get them over the hump

I remember seeing andruw jones at 19 in game 1 of the world series I think '96. His first at bat was against Andy Pettitte and the yanks. It was a 2 run bomb to left. His next at bat he hit a 3 run bomb as an encore in just about the same spot. He was as dynamic as ken griffey jr for some time.
His defense and arm were spectacular.
He also became the youngest player to ever homer in a WS game surpassing Mickey Mantle who was almost 21 when he did it. Andruw was barely 19.
I'm glad he got in.
