re: Bart Starr is a top 6 All-Time Quarterback

I don't just use rings, I use stats, rings, and accolades to make this determination. Brady's 5-2 mark in the Super Bowl during the salary cap-era with his gaudy regular season and playoff stats go a long way in supplanting a big time stat guy such as Peyton or Brees bc he also was at his best when he had to be at his best in the postseason. When you have quarterbacks who play in the postseason extensively, you don't simply look at the regular season statsheet, you look at the playoff statsheet so you can form a coherent, logical, holistic argument in advocating for that individual.

Well then tell me the universally recognized criteria to determine what the best quarterback is bc the entire world would love to know
Because people are intellectually lazy and like narratives. We like to believe that winning the championship requires something "special" beyond just being really good. QB is the glamour position, over time the league has changed rules to emphasize the passing game and feed this narrative and it does take a really good QB usually to win at a high level but it's still a team game. The only difference between Brady in SB XXXVI and Jim Kelly in SB XXV is one kicker made the kick and another did not.

As is the notion that Rodgers has to win at least 1 more to be considered the best in GB history.
Well, if you read my initial argument then you'd understand my logic behind it: Starr maintains the highest playoff passer rating in NFL history, 9-1 in the postseason, more championships, 15-3 TD/INT ratio. He was at his best when he had to be at his best when the stakes were highest, with the exception of one season for A-Rod, I cannot make the same contention particularly when his 15-1 team lost the divisional round to the 9-7 Giants AT HOME. Call me when A-Rod wins another Super Bowl or at least advances to one again.

Is this another "I just read an old PFF article" Washington Redskins thread?

In the past month you have said the Steve Young was a top 5, and Starr is top 6. Who are the four QBs you have ahead of them?

there are people out there that believe Johnny Unitas was a better QB than Starr was in that era. you mean the people who actually saw them play?
I saw them both play at least 20 times each on live TV.
Unitas was more important to the Colt offense than Starr was to the Packers (who had Jimmy Taylor and Paul Hornung).
Unitas also threw a better deep ball. Neither QB was mobile.
Starr played under much more difficult passing weather in Green Bay late in the season than Unitas did in Baltimore.
They both passed to the TE and running backs in an era where a lot of teams did not.
They both had great defenses so there was no need to put up 30 points a game.
If I had the choice today of drafting the 22 year old version of both I'd probably pick Unitas first.

No particular order: Brady, Montana, Manning, Brees

Given his previous preference for declaring the unconvential picks - the GOAT...I'd say his Top 6 is:
6. Starr
5. Moon
4. Len Dawson
3. Brees
2. Steve Young
1. Fran Tarkenton

Sorry bud.... Elway was better than Bart Starr. I don't care what your stats say.....
Posted on 7/13/17 at 1:56 pm to dukke v
John Elway has a lower passer rating than Starr AND he played with the benefits of the 1978 Mel Blount Rule

Like I said... I font care what your stats say.... again if you are gonna start stupid threads like this and argue with everyone, having a knowledge of how old you are is a factor... anyone on here can read a book or look up stats online... you would be much more believable if we knew you actually saw these teams/ players play...... which seems like a no to me....

I'm drafting the quarterback who leads teams to wins and championships not one who simply amasses great stats. I contend that Unitas was the best QB of the late 1950s due to leading the Colts to repeat championships in 1958 and 1959 and submitting one of the most prolific QB seasons ever in 1959 but that team maxed out in the 1960s and couldn't even win the title until 1968 with Earl Morrall as the starter. Johnny U assumes blame for that fact bc it's not like he can lay blame to the running game, the Colts had Lenny Moore, Alan Ameche, and Tom Matte. Can't lay blame to the receivers, he had Raymond Berry, John Mackey, Jimmy Orr and Willie Richardson to throw to. Can't lay blame to the O-line when Jim Parker and Bill Curry were on those teams. Can't lay blame to the coaches when Don Shula, Weeb Ewbank, Chuck Noll and Bill Arnsparger were on those staffs in Baltimore. Certainly can't lay blame to the defense when Gino Marchetti, Mike Curtis, Billy Ray Smith, Bubba Smith, Fred Miller(LSU guy), and Rick Volk was on that team. Starr was more clutch and accurate a QB than Johnny U was, simple as that.
