Someone's opinion, surprisingly, is simply an opinion.
Russillo and Kanell touched upon this one day, regarding a colleague trying Russillo that qualifying every statement with "in my opinion" allows one to say any outrageous statement they feel like. They obviously disagree.

Essentially, an opinion is most valid when it is a completely subjective preference (e.g., I like steak better than chicken) without any objectively external qualifications.

So rating one's favorite players is purely a subjective opinion and is quite different than rating the greatest players.

Warrick Dunn is my favorite athlete, and that is my purely subjective opinion; however, if I say that "Warrick Dunn" is a better RB than Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson, and Jim Brown, then now I'm relying on it external and objective qualifications so that's not "just" an opinion and can be invalid.

Did you go to Catholic?

I ask because

1. You like Warrick
2. You are a smart well rounded chap

Nope. I grew up in Ohio, but if I had grown up in BR, I probably would have.

I guess this happened when I was little (7 or 8), and FSU was always on TV. I just thought that this little guy scampering all over the field was awesome. Then as I learned about his background (mother's death, raising his family), it solidified my fandom.

I have my moments, and I would like to agree; however, I'm sure many on here would disagree with this statement. I'll go with your assessment though.

When I went to Catholic, Warrick was a living legend around the halls
