The Utah Jazz fan permanently banned from Vivint Smart Home Arena following a verbal confrontation with Russell Westbrook during a game there last season is suing the team and the point guard.

In the lawsuit filed Monday, a copy of which was obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune, Shane Keisel claims that language he and his girlfriend, Jennifer Huff, used toward Westbrook was "the same kind and caliber as that of the other audience members in the section" -- and not racist and derogatory, as the then-Oklahoma City Thunder star alleged at the time.

Keisel and Huff are seeking $100 million in damages on claims of defamation and emotional distress, per the lawsuit obtained by the Tribune.

The incident in question occurred in March.

After an OKC win, video of Westbrook saying, "I'll f--- you up" to Keisel and Huff while standing near the end of the Thunder bench went viral. Westbrook said it was an emotional reaction to Keisel telling him, "Get on your knees like you're used to," a comment Westbrook considered "completely disrespectful" and "racial."

Keisel claimed at the time that he told Westbrook to "ice those knees up," and in Monday's lawsuit, he reiterated that what he said to Westbrook, now a member of the Rockets, was mischaracterized. He added that his family has been harassed and that he has lost work since the incident.

The Jazz banned Keisel permanently in March. The NBA fined Westbrook $25,000 "for directing profanity and threatening language to a fan."

"The organization investigated the underlying incident and acted in an appropriate and responsible manner," Frank Zang, senior vice president of communications for Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment, told the Tribune. "We intend to vigorously defend the lawsuit."

I think people are looking for you on the fantasy board about some charity bet you made with Evans vs. Godwin.

With all those cameras and microphones, there is no audio of what the guy said to Westbrook? Because if it was "ice those knees up" and not what Westbrook claimed, the lawsuit has merit.

The guy's life was basically ruined. His face and name were on every major media outlet.

Also, neither of the possible things he said was racial. How can anyone infer that?

"get on your knees" never made any sense anyway.

No, but it's pretty normal for the initial claim in civil cases to be far above reality.

If they found audio/video proving he said "ice those knees up" and not what Westbrook/the team/the media destroyed his life over, then he's going to get $10 million or more. He lost his job over this shite and you can't google his name without an article talking about him being racist (which makes no sense).

Yeah I agree. If I lost my job and my reputation over a benign comment I’d swing for the fences as well.

Don’t some of the claims of racist come from things on his own twitter account?

A big problem in this country is being able to even sue for this amount. As if there is 100 million in damages for this person. There should be penalties for seeking so much. So he lost his job but in the end because of his own actions. I wish there was a counter suit so he could then see how much it will affect his life.

So saying “ice those knees” is unacceptable at a basketball game? And worthy of life altering public slander?

You think a job as a used car salesmen is worth $10 million or more?

I don't believe him when he says all he said was ice those knees.

I'm not a Westbrook fan but I seriously doubt he'd hear that and freak out on a person to the point he wanted them booted from the arena. Sorry. I don't buy this dude's excuse at all. If there really was audio proving he did nothing the odds are it would have already come out.

Is Westbrook an emotional player? Yes. But come on now. "Ice those knees" is just not the kind of thing that is going to make him flip out.

"Get on your knees like you're used to" though? I totally see how that would piss him off and how he would think it's racial as it could be interpreted as being called a prison bitch aka a punk.

The thing is if that is the case he can't really say why he thinks it's racial b/c that would mean he would have to admit he was angry that he thought the guy was calling him gay.

This dipshit has about as much of a chance of getting any money from this suit as I do of making the Jazz. You think the team would have punished a season ticket holder like this if there wasn't anything to it? If he had any brains, he would have let the damn story die on its own. It was already dying off. The second time Westbrook came to Utah, it would have been forgotten about.
