I have to say, from a pure entertainment perspective, the league actually benefits from controversy aka human umps.

Question about the viewers perspective when looking at the "box" shown on the screen as the strike zone. Us as viewers are seeing that box at a slight angle. Is this taken into account when a ball/strike is shown?

Then why are you and I sitting at a 2/9 upvote downvote ratio?

Nope

You're really downplaying the art of baseball.

I hate snob umps as much as anyone but a computer calling strikes is total nonsense.

Sport isn't a precise definable in all circumstances algorithm.

It's a living breathing thing.

The strike zone isn't plastic.

Really haven't thought this through or think the strike zone is as mundane as callio a fault in tennis ala Cyclops.

Can you imagine if a guy who threw 98 now got the same zone as Maddux?

The strike zone should be concrete.

I think this would have the potential to really change the catching position. Right now there is great value to a guy who can catch borderline pitches well and make them appear to be strikes. That would become completely unnecessary.

I actually enjoy watching some of these catchers work that way, so that would be a big change.

Just get rid of the frickin umpire.. if its in the box, a green light comes on

If you're saying that the strike zone PER THE RULE BOOK should be enforce, prepare yourself for the tidal wave resulting from the whining and crying from the stars of the game. They tried having the umpires call more of the high portion of the strike zone back in the 90's and the whining was worse than a day care at nap time.

At least baseball seems way closer to this than the NFL does with the ball crossing the goal line.

I’m still not sold on that box they put up, though. Some pitches that look clearly over the corner show up 2 inches outside and I’ve heard commentators say the box isn’t completely accurate.

They should also equip a hard pitch clock all the time. If you take more than 20 sec, batter is awarded a "ball". If the batter isn't ready, award a strike.

My issue with that is I don't think K-zone is 100% either, and the assumption of most is it is. Especially the top and bottom of the zone
