Pete Carroll on NFL Network yesterday sounded like he was good going into the season with Geno Smith and Lock.

Good luck with that Pete

All the morons who whine about kaepernick need to look at this and see it doesn’t matter the color of your skin or potential ability if your an a-hole who isn’t liked in the locker room

He has an onerous contract this season. That’s the first reason teams aren’t taking him.

Most of the teams he listed have the money to eat it for a year.

hen you have to consider he’d be a FA after this season unless he’s signed to a long term deal.

He really wasn't bad in 2020, in 2021 he dealt with an injury most of the year. I think teams are kind of scared that he will play his way into the fanbase wanting them to re-sign him, because while he is better than most give him credit for he still likely isn't a solution for a team at the position long term. He is charismatic and the fans will like him regardless, but love him if he has an ounce of success.

Except for the money, I would love seeing him in New Orleans with Peyton guiding him.

I'm not sure why we are fine with going into next year with Winston.

People are shitting on him and I don’t understand it. He’s already had 3 head coaches, took the Browns to the playoffs and has been the most consistent QB that organization has had in over 2 decades by a long shot.

He is far from the problem in Cleveland

Geno Smith didn’t look half bad in the few games he played last year, so I get it

No...he is really going this route. Pete was tired of hearing how he couldn't win without Russ, and now...he's going to show the entire world...he absolutely cannot win without Russ. As a Hawks fan since 87...I'm hoping for a train wreck of epic proportions. Enough to send Pete where he should have been 5 years ago...retirement.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should

He will be a FA and cost the bare minimum in like 1-2 months. Why the hell would anyone want to pay him 10 times as much and give up an asset?

I did. And I just read it again. And confirmed it doesn’t answer the question I asked

Ok well since it wasn't clear enough based on the last part, I don't think its a good idea for those teams to sign him. If a team is a QB away with the cap space and no real solution for this season? Absolutely. But that situation doesn't exist in the NFL this year.

Baker Mayfield 2018-2021: 29-30 record, 92/56 TD/INT rate

Browns pre-Baker 2014-2017: 11-53 record, 62/70 TD/INT

He’s a bust alright — his bust should be in the Browns HOF

There's also the rumor that the NFL is going to hammer Watson with a Bauer esque suspension and the Browns are keeping Baker for this reason.

Teams are sort of left in a rock and a hard place with Baker. If Baker sucks and is let go after a year, you just gave up a high early round draft QB for one year of a mediocre QB. If Baker plays well, you're going to have pay him well more than what he's worth to keep him.

Well I don’t think there’s any reality that exists where this will happen

ETA meaning a team giving up a high early round draft pick. Browns would be lucky to get a 7th and only have to pay half his salary at this point.

Still makes a lot more sense to keep him so you have a QB this year if the rumors are true Watson is getting full year suspension.

Why trade for Mayfield if you can suck and get a chance at a real QB next year?

Thing is Baker won’t play for Clowns this year no matter what. Even if they don’t cut him he would sit the year. Clowns on hook for $18m and only option short of cutting is find a team willing fo pay a little of that to help offset. They really messed up.
