Colorado would be constantly fighting the NCAA over whether they can or can't kick off a player for using Rocky Mountain Herb:

NCAA: "You need to remove them for using illegal substances."
CU: "We can't, weed is legal here."

1. Colorado: With the town, the state, and the tradition they established in the 80s and 90s, there's no excuse for this team to be a complete doormat.

Karma for 90.

3. Illinois: I can't believe this team just fights to be bowl eligible. Every now and then they pull a Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl out their arse but they should be better than that.

And it was the Zooker no less who got them to the Rose.

That's not so cut-and-dried. I assume you are referring to Washington D.C. and Baltimore. While Baltimore would align with the Terps, D.C. would more than likely side with the popular team at any given moment.

See above. Butch Davis was only successful as a result of academic fraud and tampered grades for certain players.

Not for athletes - Cal and UNC's graduation rates for student-athletes are a joke, and their admissions standards for athletes are pretty close to NCAA bare minimum. Do you think Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson and so forth are Rhodes Scholars?

Cal should be a lot (a whole lot) better than they are. They had 31 players on NFL rosters on opening day last year, including three of the best players in the league. There's absolutely no reason that they shouldn't be a consistent top 20 program.

I live in Baltimore and it's definitely not a Terps city. They certainly have fans here, but there are just as many VT, Penn State, WVU, etc. fans as UMD.

DC is more of a Maryland city because College Park is basically in DC but there are also a ton of transplants there with other allegiances also.

Maryland's fanbase in general is very lackluster.

So, everything points clear to ASU and to University of Arizona to some extent?

I always thought Missouri could and should be better, but they've had some good success since joining the SEC (and i'm not trying to flame).

on the opposite spectrum, there is no reason why vt and ksu have been so good as long as they have been. it's coaching.

Missouri is like Iowa a consistently slightly above average program. That's not likely to change until Ferentz and Pinkle are gone.

Don't put Pinkel in the same breath as Ferentz. He has his program peaking right now.

I live in Baltimore too and it's definitely a Terrapin city. It's just not #1 for football because the football program absolutely sucks. If they ever become good, they would definitely become the favorite cfb team of the city. Penn State, WV and Virginia Tech are only popular in the area because of the alumni who went to those schools. There are very people here who support those teams that don't have a connection to the school. Maryland is the only school that would be able to get those casual fans to jump on their bandwagon.

Someone mentioned ucla, and that is one that should be continually in the hunt for the P-12. The fact is they go through cycles of being just relevant too much.

I don't know why Ole Miss and Mississippi State aren't more consistent as well. There is plenty of talent in the SE, but they historically have been also-rans. (Of course Ole Miss has recruited 5* bag men recently so that could change while Coach F is there)

Another school that has fallen way off is Miami. They have really not been consistently relevant in a while. Too much tradition and talent in Florida not to be as good as they have been.

Also, as mentioned before, Cal. Great area, great education, and should be able to recruit nationally for those very reasons.

Because the state gets split between the 2. Only 1 major program there (which is only behind LA per capita in NFL players) would be beastly.

I'm just saying it's a pro sports city, Ravens and Orioles dominate and I don't think there is a major difference between the college allegiences.

There were more WVU fans than MD fans when they played at M&T bank 2 years ago.

San Diego has a good history, a name, but I understand its hard for them to recruit top tier talent.

Unlike most of the UC system, San Diego St does have a larger student body, a bit less strenuous admissions and a rich recruiting ground.

However, and perhaps similar to some of other western universities mentioned, the issue mainly comes down to not enough people caring all that much.

Too many students, alumni and general people in the community who actually are football fans tend to be much more avid NFL fans.

agree. LSU spent their time in the wilderness (and so did bama).

here's to UT returning to the top.

I think the SEC is a better place with a good UT

I want to say UNC but I'm going to go with NC State. It should be a lot easier at State. They have a bigger football fan base. I feel like Wake & Duke have had more success in the last 10 years than State.

There's more than enough talent in the state too.
