This could have been done to keep them green. The Augusta area is going through a drought right now.
ETA: Notice how splotchy the rest of the course looked. That is lack of water.

Im not sure if the only putting every hole and winning the masters argument is still going but svp said on pardon my take that he broke 100 there and didnt 3 putt a single hole. Im sure he didnt land every chip shot right next to the flag
