So the name is okay, but the chop might be problematic? bullshite. If one is good, so is the other.

Can someone explain to me how the tomahawk chop is racist?

It would be like the Cavaliers doing a sword gesture or Texas Tech doing the gun gesture.

I honestly do not understand.

Unfortunately, the Chop is likely toast (and was way overused to begin with in recent years)

......for now

The cancel culture mob stops at nothing. There must ALWAYS be progress. No matter how unnecessary or ridiculous it might be. It is NOTHING more than a power grab. Plain and simple. Just like the naive individuals who thought it was going to stop at the removal of confederate statues. Today's "victory" over the Redskins (who exactly ZERO fans/customers gave a shite about that name, and the change will attract exactly ZERO new fans/customers) is just the beginning of the move to the next power grab. They will want it gone not because the word "Braves" is offensive. But because they just want to show YOU they have the power to change it simply because they said so.

And why wouldn't they go after the Braves. The name is a holdover from their time in Milwaukee...a city named after an Indian word. The word "Brave" doesn't seem offensive at all. But neither did the word "Warrior", which Marquette University removed in 1994 because it was "offensive".

He replied to me a minute after I posted and hasn’t replied since. He’s probably furiously reading Deadspin looking for an answer.

So when some fans start doing it on their own and the rest of the stadium joins in, then what?

It sounds awesome at night under the lights during a big moment.

I don’t get wanting to remove it. It’s a postive way to incorporate past heritage, sports, and bringing thousands of people together. It sounds bold and intimidating when 32k ppl do it.

Why make it all go away? Dumb.

I'd prefer that (especially in big game scenarios similar to when we used to do it at AFCS in the 90s) than the organist/media team jamming it in every other batter.

If the team gets rid of it completely and makes a bitchfit about fans doing it organically, that would be a disgrace.

It’s a chant. I couldn’t care less if it were a documented Pre battle or post battle chant to celebrate the act or war. But my question for you, since you say that it is a chant specifically attached to the act of war, is what tribe used this chant for that purpose? Did a tribe claim it as their own? Did you see it on a documentary or read it in a book about North American Indians? Just tell me how you know it is a war chant.

Until then, I’ll just call it a rally chant made up by FSU fans at some point in the past to sound kind of Indiany.
