And wtf are the Yankees and Dodgers jerseys and hats doing on the center of that table? Who cares if they have the best records at the break, it should 100% be the Braves and Astros.

I mean, it's also the 2 biggest markets in the country. ESPN knows what they are doing, especially with it being hosted in LA.

You know how that list is compiled? And they haven’t mentioned it yet, I’m not sure it’s still a thing.

I'm not 100% sure it's still a thing, either. I don't know if the manager also picks that list, or if MLB does it based on order of overall fan votes that players received during the first phase of starter voting. Or something else. I'm really not sure, but I'm about to look it up.

Yeah, other than having it at the end of the season, but they'll never do that, so I probably didn't need to even mention that.

Yeah, they can’t do that. That’d put it in November, and no manager is gonna want to throw their pitchers after the season. Even the position players who made it deep in the layoffs won’t want to play after that grind. And the guys on teams that didn’t make the playoffs would have been off for a month. It’d turn into the Pro Bowl.

They still haven’t mentioned the last guy in thing. Was it replaced by the “legacy” spot?

I just looked, and it says they discontinued it in 2019. The legacy thing is an exemption, as far as I know, so it shouldn't take any spots away.

Maybe Riley will get to take the place of someone.

Oh, horse shite. Nobody’s tuning into anything because they had a couple of black Dodgers and Yankees hats and jerseys laying on a table for 30 minutes at 5:30 EST on a Sunday. May as we’ll have Boone and Roberts managing with that logic. Not to mention there’s still a week of games left. Most years the teams with the best records at the break won’t officially be decided in both leagues with 6 or 7 games left.

Well shite. But why? Just another Manfred frick up. In a sport that’s hemorrhaging fans on a national level, it takes away an opportunity for a little more fan engagement. Am I missing a legit reason? Because I can’t think of one.

I have no idea. I don't like fan voting, because fans tend to do such a bad job, but if it's about fan engagement, I don't know why they'd take that away.

A little off topic, but why do some people believe Tommy Edman was snubbed? Isn't his OPS about a fart above .700?

Edit- I was wrong, it's a fart below .700. Sitting at .699

No shite? He’s not close to what he used to be, but he’s an upgrade over Arcia and that high school looking talent we have backing him up. And our bench is atrocious right now, but he’ll not only boost it now, but even more so after Ozzie gets back. And he’s got a ton of playoff experience. What’d we give up? And how much of his salary are we paying?

from DoB:

#Braves traded for veteran second baseman Robinson Canó, acquiring him in a minor league deal from the Padres for cash considerations. The Mets are paying all but the minimum portion of his $24M salary after releasing the former star earlier this season.

Eh, not really this year so far, Cano has been awful(hitting like .150ish on the year between the Mets and Padres). Arcia at least plays really good defense. But he's definitely worth taking a flyer on over Gosselin, who has been pointless on the roster.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think Cano really even helps our bench. I want to believe that there is something there, but he's become totally washed up. .149 average in 74 at bats this year.

I have no problem with the trade, considering they didn't give anyone up for him. But I don't see him contributing.

Just two years ago, in the BS 60 game season, he hit .316 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI and an .896 OPS in 49 games. But then got himself suspended for all of last season due to steroids, and it looks like the lack of steroids has done a number on his production this year.
