Atl with it's 19-2 run..or 24 of 29 win streak coming at some point, has nothing to fear.

It's my Phils which start slow, and lack the ability to go on obscene win tears, that will find itself sweating the Mets & Fish in September, and losing a painful series to the Nats.

Neither the Mets or Marlins will be competitive this year. The Mets will be better offensively this year, but their pitching is a glorified AAA staff sans an injured Senga and a rusty Diaz. Marlins were more lucky than good last year and are without Sandy this season. The NL East is ripe for the Braves and Phillies to beat into submission this season.

The biggest worry for whoever is fighting for the wild card between ATL and PHI this year is that the NL West takes up two (or all) of the wild card spots.

I agree on Mets, but Fish have some good young players.

But, agree, SF, Az, Mil, Chi, Cinn, appear the main WC threats to Phi.

I think both of us beating up on the other East teams and generally everyone else not named LA will negate that. They are arguably the two best teams in the NL(along w/LA).

Whomever doesn't win the East will win one of the WC spots IMO. I do agree that the NLW will get the other two.

FLA outplayed their peripherals last year. IOW, they are due a big market correction.

Fishies have too many injuries to the rotation and didn't do anything to upgrade their lineup in the offseason, and the Mets are cooked unless Senga comes back to that rotation very soon. Their SP is awful. I don't see either team threatening anyone this year. Both look like 75-80 win clubs.

Don't discount Gallen and gang, nor Webb/Snell, nor Mil so fast..

Phillies aren't above headaches..were relatively injury free last year sans Hoskins.

Mets might not even win that many. I can see low 70's for them.

Pittsburgh is another young team who will be pretty good once they get their pitching in a good place.

The Braves won a series on the road against a division opponent to open the season. Just win series and the rest will take care of itself.

I guess I’m in the minority it seems but I was also questioning why Bummer was left in. Games in March count just as much as they do in September.
Before you say it, I get that they’ll have a better of where they stand later in the year to know if they need to tax the pen. But an opening weekend sweep on the road against the team that knocked you out of the playoffs the past 2 years would have been damn sweet.

That's a brutal mentality to have, we're not going to win every game this season. Hell we're going to lose 50, 60, maybe even 70 more games after tonight.

They weren't going to go through three bullpen arms in
one inning, especially on a cold day in the third game of the season when everyone is still in spring training mode. They brought in Bummer because Philly countered Jimenez with Marsh. And while he gave up the runs, he wasn't even pitching bad, it was some unlucky contact and a fast runner that beat out what would've been an inning-ending double play. shite happens, but it was a getaway day in a series we already won with another road series looming without an off day. No need to treat your bullpen like it's a playoff game. This isn't MLB The Show, these guys are humans and don't have rubber arms.

Never said they would. But a sweep on the road against your current biggest rival is bigger than most getaway games. I don’t fault Snit. But I don’t see why it’s so egregious to go for the sweep.

He did go for the sweep... it didn't work out.

Once it didn't work out, no point in using a third arm in the inning.
