Bingo.

Been a Braves fan since I was 7 years old (1983).

This choke job yesterday just means it is October.

Death. Taxes. Braves choking in October.

Part of life.

I’m feeling optimistic this morning. The team didn’t frick up. One guy did. Our bats were hot last night. We’ve already hit Urias around and he’s going to be on a pitch count. Just need whoever starts to keep us in it. And regardless our pitching is still set up better than theirs. This team has been insanely resilient all season.

And the pitch Bellinger hit out was awful. You had just thrown one at that exact same eye level. You throw a breaking ball there, he probably misses it by a foot. Worst-case he dumps in a single.

it wasnt. if he throws a breaking ball, and he hits it out, you are on here bitching about Jackson speeding up his bat and going away from the fastball. The two fastballs were not in the same location. first one was in the zone, second one was much higher. if anything the pitch he hit out, should have been more inside, but the dude hit a good pitch.

For Matzek, no way you let him go 2 there. maybe if it was a one-run game, but the dude has pitched in every game so far, and we will need him today hopefully, plus we had a 3 run lead and a reliever that has been good all year. plus 9 spot was due up 2nd in the top half of the 8th (could have double switched, but still)

doesnt have to be anyones fault for the Dodgers to make something happen. They have good players.

And the batter before, Jackson made a good pitch and the dude hit a grounder up the middle on a slider off the plate. A few feet to the left and the inning is over on a DP. Jackson made his pitch there and he made his pitch to Bellinger. I don’t recall seeing many HRs hit on 96mph fastballs at neck level. The Dodgers have good players and sometimes they beat you.

And yea, the let Matzek go another inning thing is the height of second guessing. He was up 2nd in the inning, we were going to let him hit?, and we had the 8th and 9th inning relievers set up the way we wanted. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. Everybody would be a HOF manager if they knew the results and could go back and do something different.

Thank you. And the poster after you. Bellinger has the longest swing in maybe MLB history, and if it’s just a little off, you can get him out making him chase high fastballs. And like you said, the pitch he hit out was not the same as the previously one he missed. It was damn near at eye level. He couldn’t catch up to the lower one, so it made sense to go up the ladder even more and hope he chases it. I think they’re thinking worst case he takes it, and then Luke comes back and tries to get him to chase a low slider down in out of the zone. I would have never expected he could square up 96 in his eyes like that. Not this year. But he did, and you tip your cap and come back tomorrow ready to go.

After seeing the stats on Bellinger I don't put a ton of blame on Luke for the pitch selection, although I think it was somewhat ill advised given the situation. But it still comes down to Luke putting guys on in the first place.

I think it's nit-picky to go crazy over Luke or Snit for last night specifically. IMO the issue is that Luke is arguably our best guy, and while the metrics back him up we all know what his rollercoaster is like. He usually gets away with it, last night he did not. But the core of t issue is loading up your team with narrow margin guys in the first place.

In the end, this is who we are. We do not go out and buy sure things, we shrewdly invest in very young players, get the last couple months of baseball life out of aging players, get discarded players bouncing back temporarily, ride with our guys nobody else wanted when they're hot, etc. And to AA and Snit's credit, it has amazingly worked. We've band-aided and taped over holes and we're in the NLCS for the second year (and for the second time a good chance to win it), despite being on a completely different plane in spending as the other 3 teams.

Unfortunately, it's at this stage that piecing teams together with scraps and winning on pure grit tends to catch up with us. Let's hope we can gut out a couple more and see what happens next.

I've got a work dinner so I'll be pretty pleasantly surprised if I see it's a tight game when I'm done at 9:30

To this day I'm grateful I was at a work function during the Cardinals game and didn't have to endure that in real time

All I know is this game 4 starts 0-0 like the rest with 9 innings and 27 outs. And we have a 2-1 lead. Good vibes, guys.

nah. what do most sluggers want? high balls or low balls? what gives you the best shot at a grounder to get an easy out?

shoulda worked outside corner low. he played russian roulette putting that shite where he did and he got his brains blown out and lost. you mitigate the risk there.

I called it when the motherfricker came up to bat

give him a single on the ground but NO HOMER and we are still alive in that game itself

This, this, this.

In the 8th inning of the LCS, we went to LUKE JACKSON. He was a legitimate non-tender candidate and most would not have cried to see him go.

Some nerd in a Braves Nike polo is in AA/Snit's ear talking about Barrel % or some other xbeOBA-BS metric but the eye test for his career shows the guy should not be a workhorse, especially in a hostile environment in the playoffs.

I may be the only one, but I think Ynoa is gonna pitch his arse off tonight. You were starting to see it before he broke his hand earlier that he’s got that dog in him, and with his stuff, he’s capable of going out there and dominating for 5 or 6. I think he’s pissed about his last outing, pissed about the loss last night, and is gonna come out fired up and wanting the pill. If he can channel that energy properly and consistently hit his spots and not overthrow, he’ll get us to the back of the pen with either the lead or at least still right in the game.

And I don’t think momentum really carries over in baseball, but I am a bit concerned about a little doubt starting to creep in. And our bullpen is getting taxed since we only throw really 4 guys in high leverage situations. At least Will Smith didn’t throw, so his arm should be fresh. I still don’t understand why we didn’t put another hard throwing RH on the roster. But frick it, let’s ride.

The Dodgers know the Braves can't win in Dodger Stadium, the Braves know they can't win in Dodger Stadium, and the Dodgers know that the Braves know they can't win in Dodger Stadium.

It's just like all of those years of Georgia/Florida games when years of losing took a psychological toll. There were a lot of years that Georgia took better teams to Jacksonville but were down 14-0 before the game even started. That's how it feels when the Braves go to Dodger Stadium.

I’m sure we’re not the only ones wanting LA to lose. Fact is if they were just below 500 no one would show up to that outdated dump.

Bellinger is not “most sluggers.” With that swing, the odds of him barreling up that pitch in that location was very slim. He was much more likely to 1) chase it and swing and miss, 2) take it, or 3) pop it straight up. But he guessed right, put a good swing on it, and somehow managed to get on top of 96 in his eyes.

Without looking at his stats, I’d bet most of his outs are either Ks or fly outs/pop ups.

He’s much more vulnerable inside with that swing

96 in his eyes was mitigating the risk. But he put a good swing on it and beat us. It happens. Tip your cap to him and move on.

quote:

I called it when the motherfricker came up to bat

You called him hitting a 96 mph fastball in his eyes 400 feet the pitch directly after he was way late on a much better hitter’s pitch just before? Impressive.

quote:

give him a single on the ground but NO HOMER

I know it’s crazy, but I think we were actually trying to get him out. “Giving” him a single puts the tying run on 1st. I’m fairly sure we would have liked to prevent that.

At least with Ynoa there is a reasonable basis to believe he could go out and toss a gem

Would love to catch the Dodgers reeling tonight and just bully them from the outset.

They're human too and until last night they looked beat. Just as it switched quickly for us, put them on their heels and they'll feel it. Superteam or not.
