re: ATL Thread 10/19 NLCS Game 3 @ Dodgers: Dodgers score 4 in 8th inning to win. 2-1 Braves

Another thing that's eating at me is, while it's obviously good going forward that Freddie found his swing tonight, it sucks that his one AB that he didn't get a hit came with the bases loaded.
He dumps one into left and we take a 6-2 lead and maybe leading 7-2 in the 8th and the Dodgers are basically done.
frick.

It was an off game for Fried and off game for Charlie.

We left a looooooot of runs on the bases. Ozzie hitting left handed in big spots is killing us too and the Dodgers know they can go there to get outs.
I guess the part that irritates me is that a whole lot of things had to fall into place for the Braves to have a chance to win this series. To that point, everything had fallen into place that we needed, and then Luke threw literally the only pitch Bellinger has been capable of hitting over the last few years. The air went out of the balloon at that point and it just feels like any chance the Braves had of winning the series disappeared with that Bellinger HR. That felt like the moment that is going to snap them out of it.
Anyone who acts like this game never happened when tomorrow's game starts is a fool. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they have a 6-0 lead after the 1st inning tomorrow.
I would be ecstatic to be wrong about all of this.

Only thing we can hope is Urias confidence isn't there and we jump on him or Scherzer in game 5 early. Scherzers arm is dying and Urias hasn't had his best stuff. I'd throw Smyly and see if we get a Byrse Wilson game from him.

I just don’t think LA will continue to slump, which is what we need to win IMO.
They're not slumping, the numbers they've put up in these three games is basically who they've been since September... and then Muncy went down before the playoffs.
Once you get past the name on the front of their jerseys, they are not some unbeatable entity. We can definitely beat them and should if we get out of our own way.

Ozzie continuing to hit left handed is one of the dumbest things going on in baseball right now. I'm a terrible hitter from the left side, but I'm going to keep doing it. Pure brilliance.

The organization wanted him to switch hit. I wish he would tell them to frick off and hit righty every time

Y’all act like you’re surprised the defending champs who won 106 games this season weren’t going to go quietly.
We were insanely lucky to win game 2 with 9 walks and 1 HBP.
Dodgers were very lucky to win this one.
I still like our chances. Our team is very resilient despite their gaps.

When they signed him it was their idea but they have tried to get him to abandon hitting lefty a couple different times and he doesn’t want to now.

we cannot expect to win 2 at home.
Which is why winning one in LA means we won't have to do that.
Tonight sucks, not only because of the loss, but how we lost and how close we were to basically ending this series. But it was still just one game.
I'm all in on the fatalistic attitude of being a Braves fan... but take the emotions out of the loss and you realize we're in an ideal spot. The Dodgers are just as flawed of a team as we are and we have the upper-hand in the series right now.

You dudes calling the series now, ffs.
The Braves stole game 2.
And the Braves are 41-19 since the start of August. Yeah, that loss sucks but let’s calm down.
I'm not calling the series, but how do you compare this to game two? The Dodgers wouldn't have scored diddly if the Braves hadn't walked or hit a hundred batters in that game, and that's what put them behind. The Dodgers threw all of their best pitchers at us, and we won the game. In this game, the Braves prematurely pull out their best reliever, and end up with Jesse Chavez somehow on the mound to finish off the choke job. The Braves didn't "steal" crap the other day. The Dodgers were fortunate to be in that game.
This was a game that the Braves were in complete control of, and then Snitker decided he would fix what wasn't broken, opting to repeat a formula that blew up in his face on Saturday. This is the kind of crap that allowed the Dodgers to get off the deck last year.

I second the motion to lock Snitker and Luke Jackson up in the custodial closet after the 5th inning. Let someone else make the calls.

Bellinger was 2 for 33 dating back to 2020 on high fastballs (top quadrant of the zone and higher). On top of that, he is the single worst qualifying hitter in baseball from a hard hit rate perspective on fastballs up and out of the zone this season.
Much better (just below league average) on breaking balls down.
If you remember Doval threw him a breaking ball in that situation in game 5 of the Giants series and he roped it in to the gap to win the series and Giants were criticized heavily for the pitch selection.

I think this is where I and many others will disagree. Until that double tonight, Betts hadn't hit at all in this series. Somehow, Trea Turner has been even worse. If you get those two bats when they aren't hitting, you HAVE to take advantage of it.
I also don't expect Buehler and Scherzer to be that bad again. We can't blow chances against them because they're going to get a lot more chances than we do.
