Just announced, Strider will start game 3, Morton game 4. Seems like a huge gamble assuming the reports are true that Strider is only able to last 2-3 innings.

Yeah I don't think a bullpen style game 3 is the way to go if true.

LFG!! I think he goes 4-5. I’d rather have him game 3 and if we lose have Charlie, than to have him game 4 if Charlie were to lose today.

I like this move

Morton vs Phillies bullpen is advantage ATL on paper

So win today and this thing could be over

@KevinMcAlpin
Strider went 4-0 with a 1.27 ERA in four appearances/three starts against the Phillies this season with 34 strikeouts in 21.1 innings worth of work.

Strider allowed one earned over six innings at Citizens Bank Park on July 26th.

I actually like it. I feel better about Morton in an elimination game than a game 3. As rough as Charlie has been, I doubt he will lay an egg in a win or go home scenario

I don’t think he can choose when he lays an egg and when he doesn’t.

He has an excellent history in win or go home games. Can’t remember the exact number but I think he has a sub 1.00 ERA

Sure but all of those games have been from when he was a bona fide star pitcher. He hasn’t pitched an elimination game for the Braves yet. I’d be more inclined to believe we’d more likely get the same Morton we’ve seen all season.

Strider will likely go 2-3 innings. He has thrown off a mound just twice in the past 26 days. The Braves will tax their pen while playing what could be the first of three straight days. But the pen is fresh coming off yesterday’s offday.

Man we better win today, because if this backfires, we go into tomorrow facing elimination and needing Morton and a taxed bullpen to save us.

He’s certainly not the pitcher he used to be but we know he’s still capable of pitching really well as we’ve seen a few times this year.

I don’t think a bad year discounts a history of clutch pitching. I don’t think he will mow them down like he used to or anything but I’d be shocked if he completely shite the bed.

All this to say, I trust him more in game 4 than game 3.

His history in big games speaks for itself.

I'm good w/this move. Go get 'em Strider.

I think this may be the better play, honestly. I think pitching advantage is us if it's a bullpen game for them tomorrow.

I'm going to go against what I said earlier in the other thread and say that this is the way to go. We've got two bad options, throw Strider for 2-3 then turn it over to the pen now or wait until game 4 and do it then.

If we lose today then game 4 is all hands on deck anyway. If Charlie shoves and goes 7, awesome. If he gets in trouble early, hes probably getting the hook early.

There is a chance Strider has some rust, whether it be him just not having as much juice on the ball as he normally does or he just can't locate. I'd much rather that happen in a game we know for sure isn't going to be an elimination game than risking him starting and struggling a bit when we can't afford it.

I think this order has the best possible outcomes and minimizes the worst possible ones.

So does his history of this season, and that is likely more relevant.

Not to mention he was a mixed bag for us in the postseason last year.

Yep, a lot of postseason baseball is just hoping your pitchers' bad starts/outings don't happen all in the same series or too often in the same series.

For sure, no one saw Fried getting lit up like he did. Just have to hope for the best.
