addressing SS in some manner
Our roster is so weird right now. We have no starting caliber SS in the first year without the shift, possibly no LF and no full-time DH, but we have two top 5 catchers in the league.

Again, AA said Dansby would've taken a hometown discount to stay.
Where did he say this? GMs almost never make pronouncements like this, least of all someone like AA who tends to keep things very close to the vest.

CBS article with AA quote
“But I will say this: Dansby made every effort to find a way to stay in Atlanta. We had conversations in the summer. He was willing to take a lot less than what he got. That's important. But we have to manage in our minds short term and long term, and we have to make sure we have enough payroll to allocate a full 26. He deserves everything he got, but at a certain point, it doesn't make sense for us. It's hard because you're losing a phenomenal human being and a phenomenal player.”

Also speculation that this is service time manipulation by AA. Get another year of Grissom if he is the minors until June.

Ha ha Broski. Grissom will still have a better year than Dansby. Show me 1 team that doesn’t have issues amongst their starting 9? Some of you act like the Braves need an All Star at every position. That’s just childish.

That would be great, but guarantee if anybody with the Braves thought that he would have made the opening day roster.
Dansby had top 5ish SS production last year. Even if his production significantly regresses he still very likely provides top 15 SS production given his defensive value.
Don’t think that is reasonable to expect from Grissom, especially considering there is no guarantee he is even in the majors this season.

It's clear you have know idea what you're talking about, just throwing shite against the wall by basically saying "the guy on my team will have a better year than the guy not on my team" without any basis in reality.

Peter Gammons is tweeting about Grissom having a hernia issue that arose last week, but DOB is subtweeting him saying that wouldn't make much sense considering the amount of spring training games Grissom has played within the last week.

Last week Braves coaches were concerned Vauhnn Grissom had an issue in the hernia area. Now he opens the season in AAA

If Gammons is reporting this and not the beat writers (Bowman/DOB), then the Braves must not view them two very highly.
ETA: Or someone is lying.

The Braves are contractually obligated to not hide anything from Bowman since he works for MLB.
Like I said above, if the hernia was a problem, why was Grissom playing this past week. I tend to believe DOB on this more than semi-retired Peter fricking Gammons.

Either way, we are stuck with Arica as our opening day SS, which straight up sucks.

Like I said earlier, our roster construction is really weird right now.
Why we used what was left of our farm value to trade for a catcher when we were already in a good spot there still doesn't make much sense. Yeah, we're in an even better spot at the position now, but at the expense of ignoring the obvious holes on the team.

Wouldn't that also cause some issues with MLBPA? Send a guy down due to injury instead of putting him on the DL?

It is suspicious. Gammons is way past his reporting prime so either he has bad sources or someone is lying.

I'll disagree here.
The Braves were thinking ahead w/the new pitching rules/bigger bags knowing that the running game is gonna come back into vogue, thus, you need a catcher who can keep the running game in check. Enter Murphy.
And I think he's gonna be really good offensively. If you look at his home/road splits, his road splits, especially the power #'s, were better b/c he wasn't playing in that cavernous dinosaur of a park in Oakland.

AA will be on 680 tomorrow at 11:05 w/The Two Italians.(Celini & Dimino).

So we're just going to ignore the new rules (no shift) for shortstop?
We were fine at catcher, we're better now because Murphy is a stud, but fact of the matter is, we now have a logjam at that position and are barren at short.
That's a problem.

You always look at the negative, I look at the positive.
These things will always work itself out.
I trust AA. He has EARNED that trust. Even if this move on its surface, doesn't make sense.

Lol stop.
You even said coming into the offseason that shortstop was the biggest thing we needed to address. Stop acting like I’m searching for negatives
It’s the elephant in the room. But by all means, continue to deflect while serving up meaningless platitudes for the front office just because you’re afraid to criticize it.
