“God what a pathetic fan base”

No, it’s just a vocal minority who enjoy whining on fan boards

Even at home I wouldn’t want to face the Astros or Verlander in a one game scenario. Would definitely rather have a young A’s team coming into that atmosphere rather than veteran group who has been through it before.

Which scenario do the Yankees have a better chance?

7-game series without home field against the best rotation in the MLB? Or one game at home with whoever they want starting and one of the best bullpens in baseball all fresh and ready to go? I fully understand the Astros will probably have Verlander throwing, but hey you never know. They might have to go for it down the stretch all the way to the last couple games of the season to try to win the division, and Verlander might not be available in the wildcard game. That’s the “beauty” of the new playoff format.

If you think you’re going to have to beat Houston either way to win the pennant, give me door #2 10/10 times. Of course, you could argue that maybe Cleveland would beat Houston in the LDS and then this wouldn’t matter.

No doubt the hangover is real. Not near as hungry as need be. I see them not making playoffs at all

I agree. Plus Verlander is not near as scary as he was last season.

I have a long standing tradition of dialing back my attention part of the season b/w the Allstar break and playoffs. Just can't treat it like football getting pissed off every loss.

Very wise. It's a long year and the Stros are sitting just fine.

Eh he has a point, Verlander last year was unreasonably and unsustainably good once he joined the Stros. In regular season he did 4 ER in 5 starts with a K/9 of 11.4 and WHIP of 0.64. In the post season he was 4-1 with a 2.21 ERA and WHIP of 0.82. He's fine this year and I expect him to be reliable and durable as frick, but I wouldn't call him scary. The main issue vs. Yanks is that he is trending in the wrong direction on hard contact and just sheer number of HRs he is giving up relative to his own standards etc.

Verlander could very easily be 16-4 right now

Explain your scenarios where Yankees prefer Houston in 1 game series.

If you thought a team was better, wouldn’t you prefer to face them in a 1 game winner take all scenario as opposed to a 7 game series?

Already explained it above.

Yankees are going to finish with a better record than Houston, so the wildcard game between the two would be in New York.

That's quite a declaration with a 3 game lead at this point in the season.

If the Astros record is better than NY, it means they won the division

It’s going to be fine Altuve is coming back, we’ll be basically whole offensively and the lineup will go back to normal and they’ll get rolling again.

It’s really a bitch to get guys like Bregman and Yuli something to hit with no other consistent threat in front of or behind them. Altuve being back is going to change the entire approach a pitcher has to take at the top of that lineup. And if they make mistakes and those top 4 hit homeruns, great. And if they frick up and let them on base for guys like Yuli and marwin who have been hot lately, even better. Again. It’s going to be fine.

Correct. Yankees remaining schedule is very easy.

it’s August 18th and the A’s freight train has caught you you’re fricked. I believe this one of those years where they just overachieve in the regular season.

On the other hand, their 1st round playoff opponent will be a benefactor

3 weeks later Astros 3.5 game lead, and tied with Yankees, which matters in case the As win the west after all. I'd love to see the Yankees on the road to verlander with loser plays golf.
I'm delighted the As are several up on Seattle. The mariners opened so hot.
Still nearly a month left.
Seattle is not out of wildcard chase.
