No special reason, just never seen that before. Worked in machine shops, foundries, refineries, shipyards, and never heard of any guy missing work for "maternity leave". Guys missed a day or 2, took their vacation time, when they had a baby

I just had 3 weeks of paternity leave last month. My wife is a stay at home mom so she's always with our kids, but those 3 weeks were far more valuable to me than anything that I could have done otherwise.

Why is it a shock than men want to spend time with their families?

A quick Google search shows Exxon gives their employees 8 weeks maternity leave lmfao

quote:

The Company offers eight weeks of paid time off for employees after the birth or adoption of a child. For birth mothers who typically receive six weeks to eight weeks of recovery time, this doubles their paid leave. This program allows more time for mothers, fathers and adoptive parents to bond with their new child when it most matters. For ExxonMobil employees and married couple Michael Lawson and Meghan Janzen who were expecting their first child, the program was, “a huge relief.”

Turned on the game tonight and Bregman is on "paternity leave"

Is it weird that he took time off to be there for the birth of his kid?

Most companies offer paternity leave. Some more than others. My buddy at Deloitte got 3 months paid and had a year to use it. My old firm would have given me a month paid. My current firm, I just took 4-5 days off when my daughter was born then came in for a few hours a day for a couple weeks. I didn't technically take "leave" because no one cared to make a thing about it. I just was there for my wife and child and made sure everything was buttoned up at work before and during that time.

I vaguely remember some old-time baseball manager once lamenting players taking time off when their wives were giving birth by saying: "You don't have to be there when the ship launches, as long as you were there when the keel was laid."

I retired 9 years ago. Had a vasectomy 31 years ago. Was just saying what it was like in the past. It makes no difference to me. Doesnt do anything for, or against me. All these whiny bitches want to bitch about something from behind their keyboard.

You’ve never heard of “paternity leave”?

This makes sense. Would be odd if Bregman was on “maternity leave”.
