Vince McMahon's antenna had trouble picking up ABC that day and he demanded they change it.

One was a walk-in touchdown and the other was a jumping catch in the back of the end zone while covered.

You mean best?

No one knows more about the teams than Gary. Guy does his damn homework. Routinely calls plays before they happen.

Verne is just wasted and laughing the whole time, but Gary is fantastic.

I remember in 2010 when Verne was in the bag for auburn or 2008 AND 9 when he was in the bag for tebow

It's all bullshite. People like lame broadcasting, or maybe we do...whatever.

Verne is awful. But anyone that thinks Gary sucks needs to pay closer attention.

I would add the caveat that Verne isn't currently performing up to his GOAT status. Just old.

i just read something that claims he said he didn't like dick vitals and said he was "an acquired taste" thus forever cementing his GOAT status

The MSB always seems pretty split on Gary. Some people think he's the smartest guy ever, others say his schtick is to predict every play and that he misfires all of the time. I can't really say there's any crew I'd rather have other than Nessler and Blackledge. Maybe McDonough and Spielman.

Gary is like any other quarterback, he throws INTs but he always backs up his expectations with facts and thorough explanations after the play...all while keeping it very concise

Its not split but opinion is definitely absolute whichever way it goes

Most people hate danielson, and most people are stupid
Most people like collinsworth, and...

I really like ole Verne. He has a great voice and is obviously still very passionate about what he does. Gary understandably rubs people the wrong way, but does offer very solid analysis

I was listening to a podcast he was interviewed on this morning. Verne was talking about how many of his mentors used a minimalist style of broadcasting and he tried to follow them some. Dick Vitale is pretty much the opposite of that.

He can teeter on the edge of smugness but I think he stays on the right side. It's not the reason I loathe buck or collinsworth, but the criticism that they're smug is a legitimate one

The best play by play is one that you don't even notice during the game all while subconsciously being a crucial element of your enjoyment of the broadcast. That's Verne, he captures the mood, and excitement of not just the game, but the audience.

Why do people think he's done every job under he fricking sun? Dick Stockton has a classic voice and is a great broadcaster (not like Verne) and he's not on prime time tv

When I realized Florida/LSU was an ESPN game, it sunk all of the excitement out of the game. It was a great game, but it didn't feel like it. People don't realize how much a good broadcasting team and production crew impacts your enjoyment. Even the guys I hate...they're better than nothing

No. Verne is not good. But there are plenty that are worse. Did you see those retards that did the LSU USC game? "The middle of the field is dark and full of terror." Rod Franklin sucks

Good Lord no. There's some really SAD ones on whatever network Memphis played on the other night. Whoever was running the ball was the "feature back". (Or is that something new, and just don't know it yet?)

And some ESPN2 duos or ESPNU duos are, to be nice, pathetic. Heck, some of the SEC network early game ones suck as well.

Who's calling the Ole Miss - ARky game Sat afternoon?
