I have the watch AFL sub, but they struck a deal with Fox to bring it to FS1, 2, and Fox Soccer Plus. It’s pretty fricking awesome.

I'm down for watching more AFL. I don't follow closely, but I have cousins who are from Adelaide, so I try to keep an eye on these guys.

Collingwood fan here.

I’ve actually been to a match at the MCG. It’s a crazy sport for sure.

I’ve been a Melbourne fan, but I’ll watch them all. I’m pulling for the Roos though. I dig their logo.

ESPN used to air these matches back in the 80's. I watched it then.

When ESPN first came out they had AFL on late at night. Like come home drunk from the bars late. I used to watch it all the time. Loved the little guy in the white suit and the finger thing he does when they score. Brutal and fun game to watch.

Went to a live game in Perth back in 90’s. Had a blast! Was a port call and we all got free tickets.

It used to be on ESPN during the day in 80’s.

Never understood the rules, but it was fun to watch and the accents were great.

That was the last time I watched it.

Went to North Melbourne vs Richmond in 2019 at Marvel Stadium. It was fun, watched a few on tv during covid.

Never understood the rules,

Ive picked up on them from playing a video game. Though when I went to a game in person I asked questions to the person next to me who seemed utterly disinterested is answering them. I get they were the equivalent of asking why is that not a catch or why are there 4 downs. I felt stupid but I hadnt brushed up before going.

ESPN was my introduction to it way back when. Now, I get all of the games live streamed on WatchAFL.com.
I don't really have a favorite team but there are certain players that I enjoy watching, like Charlie Cameron of Brisbane, Jack Riewoldt of Richmond and Lance Franklin of Sydney. Franklin recently kicked his 1,000th goal to set off this mob scene. LINK

It's a fairly easy game to grasp once you get the basics. 6 points for a goal (a kick between the taller posts) 1 point for a behind (a kick between the other posts) and the ball can only be advanced by kicking or hand pass (punch.) If a player is running continuously with the ball, he has to bounce it at least once every 15 meters, or it's a turnover, something like traveling in basketball. I'm still not completely certain on everything that constitutes a 50 meter penalty yet. I'm completely lost when it comes to cricket.

ETA: because of the massive time difference between Australia and the USA, footy and rugby games can start anywhere between late night the previous night to pre dawn hours the same morning. Nothing beats going out for a few beers or legal edibles, then coming home to watch an enhanced viewing experience.

Go to ESPN watch in the 80s as it was always on with the occasional Sumo wrestling and NASCAR.
