I think their one major gripe is the NFL's failure to keep up with medical coverage for football-related injuries after their career is over.

What do they want the NFL to do? Why doesn't the NFLPA have a group plan for health insurance for vested players (played for five years or something) after retirement that current teams and players pay into that takes care of current players and former players?

They need to do something like that. I'm not behind the players for pensions or anything like that, but I can see where they'd want the NFL to subsidize medical care for injuries traceable to football, especially the older guys.

The only players that have a case are the ones that played before the 1960's. The equipment they had to use was so bad it isn't even funny. I have no idea how players like Mr. Dub Jones are still alive today. I know they played back when football was football, but they're the ones that really need the help!

I think you're missing my point. My point is that I'd think it is common sense that a career of heavy hits both in practice and in games would probably have long term consequences on your body.

No. I hear your point, I just disagree with it. Fans don't want to be reminded of the immense human cost of our entertainment. It makes us complicit in the destruction of these lives, and no one wants that. So we choose to ignore it.

It's easier to say "yeah, the game is violent", but people don't want specific examples of what football does to people. It's pretty awful what the NFL does to the human body. And most players don't earn the massive compensation of the handful of superstars.

An actual journalist would cover these things, and not just act like the league's promotional arm.

People are acting like concussions will kill the NFL and other pro leagues. People didn't take care of concussions in the past and those results are now being shown through retired players.

Now that concussions will be under the microscope from now on they'll be treated better and players will be taken care of. The boogeymen are acting like nothing will be done.

Not vouching for team boogeyman but the sport is evolving. Its almost to the summit of speed and strength. Along with that, equipment is getting lighter but better. I think it will be a roll of the dice that safety will improve.

And the lawsuit against the NFL because they claim to not know the concussions could be related to brain damage.

I feel about as bad for them as I do people who choose to smoke and later develop lung/breathing complications.

Don't give me that. A player collecting the league minimum for 4 years makes what the average person will over a 30 year career. How they choose to spend that money is on them.

Again, no one is forcing them to the NFL for their career. They could have gone to college and gotten a normal job, but they chose the NFL and the consequences of that type of career. Anyone with a brain can tell you repeatedly getting hit will have adverse effects on your body. These old players that are suing IMO look like they just want a handout because they're too stupid to do anything else with themselves now that their playing days are over.

It was getting bad before the Junior Seau thing. Watch for it to ramp up even more now.
