I recently went in partnership with a couple of guys in ownership of 4 foals.

Love to hear if there are any other owners here on the TD.

Please save all the “you are going to go broke” or “you will never make the Kentucky derby”.

Wish I could help but I just sold my stable today. Going on a tour around the world on my yacht and had no more use for the ponies.

I am part of a group that has horses. It’s a group of about ten and we don’t take it too serious. It’s been a lot of fun. The key to me is find a trainer you like and communicate often with. Some of the more well known trainers often have egos and make decisions without talking to the group much.

My family is familiar with the game.

Finally got back into the winnners circle recently. Its been a few years.

We are only running 2 now as Breeder and owner. Have a couple running that we bred and sold.

Got a couple young fillies on the farm that are about a year out from making their debut.

Where do your horses run at?

One of the 4 yearlings is out of Frosted and a Cazadora. They are all 4 in Kentucky. They are Louisiana bred though.

Mainly at the Fairgrounds and Evangeline. We have run at LA downs and occasionally a Lone Star or KY track.

Former. My dad was in the 90’s and early 2000s. He bought a horse for $500 won over a bunch with him. My brother and 2 became trainers. We had a stable of 10. Horses and were 50 percent in the the money. We were new money and when our jockey broke her neck the rest of the horsemen ran us out. Never could finish in the money again. We played the claiming game. Brought the horses back to the farm and had a eurociser.

Have a friend that had some horses he raced. Of the twenty races he entered with I think 3 horses, he won twice and came in the money a few more times. This was in a 3–5-year period where he paid 50 a day to keep his horse at the track to train. He had a place where he could keep his horses when not running, but the trainer wanted him to keep his horses at the track so he could get some of that 50 a day money. Never been around racehorses and at that time I saw the ins and out of this sport. As another friend who raced QH said, if you aint cheating you aint trying.

You never know! Do it because you love it and have disposable money for entertainment. It's exhilarating and addicting. Don't expect any sort of return and have fun!

My dad was a trainer for over 40 years. I grew up cleaning stalls, washing feed buckets, hot walking, etc. We owned some here and there as well.

Watching your horse on the rail at the 3/16th pole gaining on the leader is as exciting as it gets. Doesn't matter if its a 5K claiming race or a 30K allowance race, it's as exciting as it gets.

Winning a cheap claimer is still a good feeling. Our ownership has won at CD, FG, Ellis Keeneland, OP and KD. Churchill was the best feeling I had because it was the same winners circle as the Derby. Keeneland was awesome too. Being in a partnership is fun. Our gameplan was always to claim between 30-50k. We all agreed on a trainer that had ZERO violations, and actually puts his hands on our horse everyday. Getting an LA bred has its rewards, because the FG does give an incentive for state bred. Good luck

Same here in Arkansas. The pots for Arky breds at Oaklawn are crazy.
