“I know America loves its bad guys. But I’m a great guy. I just won a Super Bowl. I’m an American hero. I persevered through numerous adversity. I took a COVID suspension [for a fake vaccine card] without evidence and came back, got 100 yards on half an ankle, a deltoid, a torn ligament, bone fractures in my ankle. No one’s talking about the great things that I’ve been able to persevere through and do. “

I find it both telling and incredibly sad that he equates athletic performance to being a good person.

I like how he's always right and everyone else is wrong.

That will always endear a lot of people to him.

This is what happens when you are treated like a god from highschool onwards because you’re good at a sport

I think most people are capable of separating the two. I think people say he’s great at football and just don’t care about the other stuff, not necessarily that they think he’s a good person.

Interesting and wrong use of the word hero.

I’m sure he was a hero to all those fantasy players who believed in him in their championship games while he walked off the field

He’s about as close to an American hero as Lebron is. So not close. They have both done more to damage their sport than help.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that mental health should be taken seriously, but AB is simply an a-hole and it's a disservice to people with real mental health issues to put this guy in that category. He's just a total dick with an inflated ego.

Totally agree, and I almost made mention of that in my post.

Player or coach wins, we look for reasons why they’re a good person; conversely, when they lose, we find a reason to tie it to their character. See Vick’s ‘redemption’ story with the Eagles several years ago.

I generally loathe sports ‘redemption’ stories. Be a good person off the field or court, because how you play on it has no bearing on that.

Doesn't really apply to him. He was 6th rd pick that started as a walkon at Central Michigan. He's crazy but he wasn't a silver spoon guy.
