And I really can’t believe after 3-4 years of everyone profiting off their performance except them that they would be eager to get a piece of the pie.

Crazy.

Great, so they should play til their hearts' content. If they rip a knee up it really won't damage any long term prospects for them. Shouldn't put a damper on their future careers at all. Not the case for anyone who's going to play at the next level and whose physical well being will be tied to their ability to get paid

Ok, so a very very very small fraction of players who have future prospects to protect makes the entire bowl system "meaningless exhibitions"

Even though they are literally not exhibitions and do actually count

Why do people insist on spewing this nonsense. These games count just like any others.

The entire nature of bowl games is playing a team you don’t typically play, so at the very least they give perspective on which teams and conferences are relatively better than one another.

Players skipping the bowl may make them meaningless but I’m not sure you can make a good argument they are currently

What ramifications do a win or a loss in these toilet bowls have exactly?

A fraction of the players in these games.

If bowl games are meaningless than just about every single game played during the regular season is as well.

The same ramifications as the Army Navy game today. It's a competition. You play for personal pride. Also it goes on your record. If you're 6-6 it's for a winning or losing season. If you're 9-3 it's for a 10 win season. If you've got the longest bowl streak in the nation it's to extend that. If you're an upstart school who has never won a bowl game there's that.

I honestly just want there to be a semi pro league.

Do not care if the level of talent declines in the NCAA.

Give me the true amateur college football experience.

Maybe then this era of Bama domination will be over

They count for wins and losses.

Are coaches and programs not judged on those anymore?

If he was so concerned about injury, and if CFB is so meaningless, why didn’t he stop playing the moment he knew he would be drafted? He knew long before the end of this season.

I agree that unless you are in the playoff for the National championship, it's just another game that has no bearing on this season's outcome. The division and conference champions have been crowned, the postseason awards have been announced, and now it's about windowdressing your record and maybe earning postseason bonuses for the coaches.
It can serve as motivation going into the spring, may catch the eye of an uncommitted recruit, and can provide a nice end to a college career for kids that are never going to play football again.
But, if you are a surefire NFL prospect, you run the risk of blowing a shot at possible generational wealth. Pretty easy choice for me.

Mentioned in the other thread, but it’s worth noting that his blind side tackle announced a few days ago that he’s skipping the bowl as well.

You're seeing the beginning of the end of big time college football and maybe that's a good thing. Let the NFL pay for a farm system and let college students play in a 25,000 seat stadium in front of girlfriends, parents and alumni.

If he tears his ACL in a meaningless exhibition are you going to make sure he's set up financially?

If that was such a major concern of his then why didn't he bow out 2, 3, 4 games ago if he knew he would be drafted? He's quitting on his teammates and the fans of his school. Pretty selfish if you ask me.

If I'm a GM I wonder if he's going to dog it in the league after getting a big contract. Speaking generically, not just about him

These are one-off extras played a month after the season ends for no other reason than to make a sponsor money while giving the players an extra chance to get hurt for $100 bucks in camping world coupons. Well said.

It's not the players who are being selfish. It's the fans who only give a shite about whether a player plays giving them a better chance to talk shite online or win a bet.

So fricking stupid.

He'd be playing for Orange and Blue for a NY6 bowl. Thanks Mcelwain
