I'm very happy about this.

Brees, Matt Ryan, Josh Freeman and Andrew Luck would make the NFC-South ridiculous QB wise.

Good.

Underclassmen QBs drafted by NFL teams
JaMarcus Russell
Vince Young
Alex Smith
B. Roethlisberger
Rex Grossman
Michael Vick
Tim Couch
Ryan Leaf
Heath Shuler
Trent Dilfer
Drew Bledsoe
Tommy Maddox
Todd Marinovich
Jeff George
Andre Ware

there are some epic busts in there but the QB position is maybe the worst for busts anyway... around or maybe less than 50% of QBs taken in the first round don't pan out as real NFL QBs - let alone HOFers

To me I think Luck is more ready than most coming out of college and worry that he's risking an injury

On the other hand - I'm a big fan and think his return makes Stanford a serious contender for the NC next year... he's so good that with Luck returning Stanford can beat anyone on a given game day IMO

For all we know, Luck can tear his ACL his senior year, go on a bender, and get arrested for a drunken dog-kicking and assaulting baby seals with a club before he even gets a shot at the 2012 NFL Draft. In prison, he definitely would regret not being taken #1 in the 2011 Draft and would most likely consider it a mistake.

The point is, no one knows what the future holds for anyone. Anyone notice how Jevan Snead epically fell in a short 12 months?

There is plenty of evidence out there that suggests we can't predict the future.

It worked out for Sam Bradford. He even got hurt and was still drafted #1 overall the next year. Leinart did the same thing and got drafted 11 the next year. His lack of success in the pros has nothing to do with going back to school.

What if there is no NFL football next year? Will these other guys going pro be getting paid? Luck at least knows he'll be playing football in September next year, nobody going pro can say that.

It's a poor personal financial decision for the kid, if that's the aim. But like others have said, he comes from a wealthy family, knows he'll probably always have money one way or another, and enjoys what he's doing in school.

Is it beyond reason to think that he might say "Eh, I'm fine. I'll stand aside and let one of these kids that grew up dirt-poor make bank off of the only thing they probably can."

Kid just may not be greedy.

Snead was never going to be the number one overall pick. Even if he had a repeat of his 2008 season in 2009, he still would have had a great combine to pass Jimmy Clausen and even then, he probably still wouldn't have been a first rounder.

Great point. Maybe he feels like staying another year will help him have a long term career

I think it will, he only played two years of college. If he wants to be a great NFL QB he needs more experience.

he is dumb.

The decision might be dumb, but he is not. Doesn't he have a 3.6 GPA at Stanford? That is like a 7.0 at LSU.

It seems like everyone is in a huge hurry to get to the NFL. Almost like the NCAA is a stepping stone. All too often the experience of college football gets swept away at times. For someone like Luck I think he is enjoying the college experience on and off the field. The guy is simply not ready to be playing on Sundays. Period. The money is tempting, but for him I'm sure he's just thinking, "If I'm good enough it'll be there next year too."

Hope it works out for him.

O rly?

Several mocks had him as the No. 1 pick before he bombed.

The point is no one knows shite about shite concerning whats going to happen down the road and nothing is guaranteed.

I find this interesting...

quote:

This undergraduate major grants a degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Architectural Design. This engineering major is not an ABET accredited engineering degree, nor is it designed to lead directly to professional licensure in architecture. In order to become a professional architect or engineer, additional graduate training is required.

Staying for an unaccredited degree? Makes this even more weird to me.

Exactly. It's all risk and no reward for Luck IMO. Teams will question his commitment to football as well after this.

The best Luck can do is be the #1 pick in 2012 and get paid several millions less
