Daddy already has that.

There is a big difference between what daddy has made and what Luck would be guaranteed at #1. Next year, the rookie pay scale may be in place as well.

I don't think his dad is 50-60 million rich. He is certainly well off, but this is strange. I can understand why a guy like Kyle Singler would stay. His parents are well off, but he would have been like the 25th pick in the draft. He can improve his stock by returning to school, and he is not really passing up that much money.

But Luck is passing up so much cash. Look at what happened to Matt Leinart. He had a great senior year and lost 25 million because of draft quirks.

Wow. His education must be important to him, considering that he'd be the #1 overall pick in the draft and his coach is leaving.

Yeah but the potential for rookie slotting as far as pay goes, it could be for less money.

Plus, I'm not sure Charlotte is much worse of a city or The Panthers much worse of a franchise than Cleveland, Buffalo, or any other possible destination next year.

Add in the injury factor (or regression; ie Jevan Snead), this move doesn't make too much sense.

he is dumb.

He could get his degree in a year and half or so and get 20-30 more MILLION DOLLARS to go with it!

Well he was a 5* QB (I believe) and his final two schools were Stanford and Rice

if a new scale is agreed upon by the time he's signed won't it already be in place anyway?

This is an unbelievably retarded decision on many levels.

Stanford is offering him $3 million a year. Miami is offering him $7-8 million a year. I still think he's gone even though Luck is staying.

Plus there's no state tax in FL.

I definitely have a lot of respect for a true scholar-athlete.

However, I would suggest to him that he could finish his degree over the next few summers and make millions.

I can see if he was a mid 1st rounder to go back, but first pick and not coming back? ? ? ? ?

Not sure about the scale. You could be right, and that's why it is only my 6th or 7th biggest criticism of this decision.

1) You can't get better than the number 1 pick
2) Carolina getting the 1 pick is a bit of a fluke. They have a great Lt, good running backs, and a solid defense. Not to mention Steve Smith and Brandon Lafell, a surprisingly good rookie. Much better opportunity than the other NFL doormats.
3) Harbaugh is leaving
4) I think 3-4 of the linemen are leaving. They are awesome. Just compare the amount of time Luck has in the pocket to Mallet.
5) The low possibility of an injury (can't remember it happening to anyone besides Bradford, and it clearly didn't hurt his stock or development).

But very high property tax, and I believe high sales tax as well.

Some of you must not be lawyers. He says:

"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012", Luck said in a statement.

No where in that quote is "I'm staying next year, period."

He is committed to earning his degree. He is on track to accomplish that in 2012. Both true.

He can also be committed to earning his degree at a later date.

I'll believe it when the deadline passes.

I don't think it's ever a bad decision for a guy to comeback (regardless of how much $$$ it is). When you make as much as these guys do, what's another 10-15 mil? Nothing really...

Great news for Saints fans since we wont have to face him when the Panthers would have drafted him in the upcoming draft
