He could be waiting it out to get his pay day
Which means that he's putting himself ahead of his team mates. Again, not a good quality to have.
He won't play through minor bumps and bruises.
He's gotten owned by less than stellar COLLEGE OTs, either because he's not giving 100% or because he isn't as good as people thought last year.

And is a STATUE back there. I love Mett but he moves worse than a turtle.

Well apparently that's still not enough for him to fall outside of the top 5 in any mock draft. I doubt it's really that he's waiting for his pay day. He may be playing hurt some. There just isn't any legitimate traction to this "he's lazy" rumor. I'll still take the chance.

Well luckily you can just get by in the nfl on ability...
And no one plays hurt in the nfl, especially during a 17 week stretch...
Again I wouldn't touch him based on just his tangibles. Intangibles separate good from great.

Everybody was saying the same thing about the last #1 pick the Texans had. Whatever happened to him????
I think he's 3rd in the league in sacks

Yeah, he does

I remember Texan fans laughing at me when I said this a year and a half ago. When they were playing over their heads
Do you realize how many FAs they've lost since the end of 2011? Not exactly some revelation.

Matthews in Rd 1
Murray in Rd 2
And they need to fill basically every position. LB is the thinnest, but the scheme could obviously be changing after this year.

OL: Winston, Brisiel
WR: Walter, Jones
FB/TE: Casey, Dreessen
LB: Barwin
DB: Quin, Allen
I might be forgetting a couple. Most of these guys they needed to keep, especially 2/5 of the o-line, but simply couldn't afford them. Smith managed the cap poorly and failed to draft depth.

I'll give you the OL. The other guys are meh

Meh is better than straight suck (i.e. washed up Ed Reed, every LB except Cushing, etc.).
ETA - the o-lineman and Quin were def above average, along with Casey who was a decent blocker for Foster/Tate.

Rookie cap now. He'll get money, but not enough to satisfy his lusts, therefore hell bust his arse for the big contract.

JFF's franchise player.
Gotta get the guy that'll sell tickets for years.

Doesn't the rookie top pick get like 32 mil guaranteed?
That's enough money (in the eyes of these kids) to buy 15 houses and cars for the whole neighborhood.

The texans are a competent head coach and QB away from being very competitive. Lol at all the people from afar saying they need to solidify the OL/DL. Yes, they could use it, but so could every team in the NFL. In a perfect world, assumming they're picking in the top 5 of every round:
1: QB
2: LB/RT (depending on value)
3: RT/LB
4: CB
5: DL
6: RB
7: S
But so much is in flux-- new head coach? New offense system(zone vs man blocking)? New scheme defensively, new GM?
The texans aren't very far away. They are just a mess at the 2 most important positions in football: coach and QB. You have 2-3 real good OLmen, including a stud LT, a solid vet WR and 1st rd pick WR from last year, TE is marginal, RB is beat up, but an easy position to replace. Defensively you have arguably the most disruptive player on the side of the ball in watt, a stud but injury prone MLB in Cushing, a rookie S I like a lot in swearinger, and an overpaid vet CB in Joseph. This team shouldn't be in rebuild mode
