Most of the concern about college football is surrounding using NIL to pay for play.
if fans were concerned about "pay for play" then they need to go back over 100 years for a "purity" argument
people just want to live in a world of lies. i honestly don't understand it

I’m so disappointed about the NIL developments, but there’s nothing I can do about it.

How will cfb never be the same? It’s not like they let a female be a place kicker or anything

Each of the 90 existing Miami scholarship players will be offered a $500 a month contract (up to $6000 for a year) to endorse American Top Team through their social media accounts, personal appearances and other marketing vehicles
I really hope some of these contracts leak, because I would like to actually read them. How many posts do they have to make each month? Is someone for ATT producing the content for the posts, and the players simply hit the button? Are the players themselves responsible for content creation? If so, is there a standard there? How many appearances do they have to make? Who pays for travel? Are the contracts guaranteed?
Stuff like this could end up being more work than it seems like it would be on the surface. On top of that, there are several ways for the players to get screwed if they don’t have someone going over the deal with them. Also, I’m interested to see what happens when a player doesn’t hold up their end, and a sponsor tries to recoup. Does the school get involved in any way?

Phil Knight or the Walton family could do this with Oregon and Arkansas and Nike/wal mart and pay $20,000 a month if they wanted.
I mean if we are just throwing out absurd numbers that will never happen, Arkansas and Walmart can pay every single player millions if they wanted to

Wait what?? I thought 85 was the limit.
Also I wonder how much promotion they are expecting from them? A tweet a month? A week? A day? Appearances there? What if they don’t even have a Twitter or an Instagram yet? Just create one and even though you have no followers yet, boom you get $500?

Uncle Luke’s income has been down for a while now.

As I mentioned, most of these players are just doing contracts for service.

The NCAA can't enforce anything anyway, so what does it matter?
Pay for play is here.

Right
There are some that seem to think companies no longer care about margins and will throw the bank at players with no calculated approach

Obviously in this new world, 4 star linebackers who are back-ups are going to make more than recent 4th round picks.
Some posters are treating the NLI situation as what they (or their most passionate friend) might do if they won a large 9 figure powerball jackpot as opposed to what some of the largest companies in the world would actually do.

But Lnchbox tried to tell me last week that only a few of the star players were going to get paid. He also said that the companies weren’t just going to give money away, they were only doing this for the advertisement the players would bring.
Hmm, seems like “Bring Back The U” just wants Miami football good again, and it’s not about their business making more money. Smart business men don’t truly expect the third string defensive end to bring their business a boost, do they?
Then Slowflo says “$500 a month isn’t much money”
What do the players have to pay for? They get:
Free school
Free tutors to do their classwork for them
Free housing
Free meal plan
Free speed and strength training
Free coaching in their sport
So the $500 a month is just extra spending cash.

The deal is being administered by a new marketing company - "Bring Back The U" - which was created by South Florida businessman Dan Lambert, who founded American Top Team and is a longtime Golden Cane and member at CaneSport.com.

Plus priority class placement, healthcare and they still get that “cost of living” stipend. They absolutely need to be taxed on that stipend and their endorsements. If everyone else’s income is taxed, then their income should be as well.
Posted on 7/6/21 at 4:23 pm to TheeRealCarolina
Who in the world is arguing their endorsements wouldn’t get taxed?
Posted on 7/6/21 at 4:24 pm to TheeRealCarolina
I have no idea how any NIL income would not be taxed to begin with. It's literally money "earned" outside of school. It's no different than a kid working part time as a waiter on the weekends.
These ad deals are no different than an nfl player repping some local car dealership...and that $$ is taxed.
