I used to enjoy watching the Rockies when they had DJ and Tulo. Hell of a middle infield.
A fricking 6'4" second baseman.

I think he gets underrated based on the antiLSU posters, they have a clear bias against anything LSU. Then you also have the people that try to counter the LSU homers that are LSU fans but will down play how good a player is to just come off as a non homer.

I think part of it is because he plays for the shitty Rockies.

Unreal the year Dozier is having. Hit #42 last night. Meanwhile Altuve has struggled big time the last month. May cost him the MVP and the Astros a wild card
Bregs getting hurt was a big part of this too.
And look, I contributed to this thread on an LSU board, referencing an LSU guy

Le Mahieu gets underrated because he plays on a bad team and in a ballpark that inflates offensive numbers. He's definitely good though. Great fundamental hitter and gold glove fielder at a tough position. I would love to see him get dealt to a contender.
On a side note it's crazy how deep 2B is in MLB now and how many good hitters there are at a position that's traditionally light on offense

Yeah, before this year, I don't really think he was underrated. He was an okay hitter last year, but in 2013 and 2014 he was one of the worst hitters in the league. He has taken a massive leap at the plate this year.

Agree with the 1st part. Definitely don't agree with the last part.

Well he won it last year

quote:Looked up 2013, he was as follows:
e was an okay hitter last year, but in 2013 and 2014 he was one of the worst hitters in the league
.280 Batting avg, 54th in the MLB, 10th 2nd baseman
.311 OBP, 111th in MLB, 14th 2nd baseman
.673 OPS. 128th in MLB, 20th 2nd Baseman
There are 270 starters in the MLB(255 hitters when you take out pitching from NL). So DJ was a slightly above average hitter, yet you call him one of the worst in the league
See why I say he is criminally underrated on this site?

Your post assumes all ballparks are the same. They are not. By wRC+, which accounts for park, he was the 3rd worst qualified hitter in 2014 and would have been 4th worst in 2013 if he qualified. I'm not trying to hate on the guy, I'm rooting for him and he is a legitimately good player now, and I'd give my left testicle to be one of the worst qualified hitters in the MLB, but he was a bad hitter (and great fielder) from 2013-2014.
Here are the Rockies team stats from 2013-2016:
Home: .305/.360/.500
Away: .237/.289/.376
No park comes close to inflating offense like that. Even a poor hitter can put up decent surface stats as a Rockie.

He has certainly improved beyond what I thought he would do.
