I’d have loved to see lebron go up against the lakers and Celtics of the 80’s, the bad boys, and the knocks of the 90’s. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have been good or even dominated but he definitely wouldn’t have been able to flop because he would have been getting hammered.
6'8, 260 pounds, built like a freight train and has never had a major injury. I think he'd be just fine.
LeBron's natural athletic ability seems to be used against him by a lot of people as if he hasn't had to work to get where he has, which is stupid. No one takes better care of themselves than LeBron.
I disagree with everything he says off the court and think he comes across as very uneducated, but that has no bearing on what I think of his ability as a player. And he is a far, far superior player to Kobe. Kobe has great stats but was horribly inefficient and his "clutch" label is the most misguided fan theory in all of sports.

This really says it all.
Yes, Kobe's 27-5-5 line probably would have won MVP if Shaq didn't drop 36-13-4. In 2001, Kobe probably wpuld have won MVP with 24-8-6 if Shaq didn't go for 33-16-5.
That's the point I'm making, discounting Kobe's rings to win a forum argument is patently dumb and disingenuous
quote:
In every case, Kobe was good and Shaq was clearly superior.
"clearly superior" is debatable Kobe carried the Lakers in a bunch of those West series and those West teams are no joke, now the Finals are obviously the distinction Shaq dominated but y'all clearly have framed the debate as if Kobe did nothing to contribute and therefore shouldn't receive historical credit for those titles, again disingenuous
quote:
In 2000, Shaq went for 38-17 to Kobe's 15-4.
this is genuinely the only season you can make the clear second banana argument for Kobe and not get laughed out of the room though Kobe did save Shaq's legacy in Game 4 after Shaq fouled out
quote:
It's why Kobe was a great second banana until he couldn't accept being second.
indisputably the greatest second banana in the history of the game, many times in the playoffs and a bunch of Finals games he performed like first banana

doesn't Kobe have the most game-winners in the history of the sport?

I have no idea.
I do know that Kobe has a long, long list of playoff failures that get completely glossed over for whatever reason and have been hashed out numerous times by me in this thread.

It's hard to find overalls, but head to head, LeBron smokes Kobe in the clutch.
quote:
In the clutch period Kobe averaged 3.5 points on 39.3% shooting and 29.2% from deep. He also turned the ball over an average 0.3 times and held a plus-minus of 0.8.
LeBron has been noticeably more efficient in the last five minutes, averaging 3.7 points on 46.8% shooting and 32.5% from downtown. His plus-minus was also well above Kobe’s at 1.46.
It depends on how you count game winners (time left) to get an answer, but Kobe isn't particularly good in the last 24 seconds.
quote:
In his 16-year career (including postseason), Bryant has made 71 of 226 field goal attempts (31.4 percent) in one-possession games in the last 24 seconds of the fourth quarter and overtime. That ranks 57th among 114 players who have at least 30 attempts in those situations over that span. The league average is 31.6 percent on such shots over that span.

The major injury claim is a non point.
Advances in training, sports medicine, “supplements”, the emphasis on resting players, minutes restrictions, etc, would all be null & void in the 80s.
He’s had back issues since his second year & his groin is also an issue for him now.
He’d also come into the league through the college system, where he hypothetically could have been moved up to a power position, thus creating more wear and tear on his body.

like LeBron was at the end of Game 6 in 2013 when Ray Allen saved his legacy after he nullified the comeback he led with 3 straight turnovers
