ACC and SEC should be required to play two Power 5 OOC opponents every year

It's blatantly unfair that the SEC and ACC have eight game conference schedules while the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 have nine game conference schedules. That extra conference game makes a huge difference. People are complaining about Washington's non-conference schedule but they only played two G5/FCS opponents (Portland State and Idaho). Meanwhile, Bama played three G5/FCS opponents (Western Kentucky, Kent State, Chattanooga). So did Auburn and Texas A&M and pretty much every other prominent SEC school out there. If Florida and LSU hadn't cancelled their game from earlier in the season, they would have played three G5/FCS opponents as well. This is mostly a SEC complaint because Clemson played two Power 5 OOC opponents (South Carolina and Auburn) this year. So did Florida State for that matter. The SEC and ACC either need to play a nine game conference schedule or find a way to schedule two Power 5 OOC opponents every year.

I'd be cool with that.

It would make up for us getting to play A&M every year.

The CFP committee just showed that a weak OOC schedule gets you into the playoffs. Why would any conference go for this?

LSU plays a tough OOC schedule pretty consistently.

Wisky 2015/2016
TCU 2013
Washington 2012
Oregon 2011
North Carolina 2010

The reason I don't mind SEC teams playing weak OOC opponents is because their in-conference schedules are so brutal.

They often play like 5 ranked teams, several of which are in the top-10 and often the top 3.

If you added 2 more power 5 games to that schedule them that would be ridiculous.

eta: Oh my bad, I read this as one P5 opponent initially, not 2.

I agree, UNC played 2 FCS teams this year. They were overrated as f most of the season.

But ACC does play a lot of games vs ND at least

I know. It was a joke at A&M's expense.

As a Tiger fan, though, I am glad to see us trying to add meat to our OOC schedule.

Just take a look at Washington's non-conference schedule moving forward. They're not changing a thing. It's not Baylor bad, but it's not great either. They do have Michigan in 2018.

Alabama should be required to give up the UT game.

If a team schedules P5 Kansas, Rutgers, UVA and Syracuse is that really any better than playing G5 LT, Boise St, Tulsa, Houston or the good Sun Belt teams?

I have no problem playing a rotation of two or three regional G5/FCS schools as long as there is at least one ranked OOC P5 opponent.

Average SOS rank according to Sagarin:
2016:
PAC 12: 15.2
Big Ten: 28.2
SEC: 35
ACC: 43.4
Big 12: 46

2015:
SEC: 23.2
PAC 12: 26.6
Big 12: 27.1
ACC: 42.6
Big Ten: 44.5

This has been a good year for the big ten and a down year for the SEC and there still isn't a massive disparity in their SOS. Last year with their 9 conference games, the big ten had the worst average SOS out of the power 5. I don't think there's a need for any additional requirements.

I would venture to guess that FSU/UF, GT/UGA, SC/CU, UK/UL almost always play 2 OOC opponents each year by default due to their rivalry games.

The OPs point is dumb tho, these OOC games are scheduled 4-5 years out. Nobody has a clue who will be good when the actual game arrives.

Scheduling Rutgers as your OOC game is in no way better than a terrible FBS team.
