From at least 2 different sources now, when I've heard someone praising Cam Newton's performance so far, someone else has commented that he keeps losing. Really? I've never liked giving the QB all the credit/blame for team accomplishments as it is, but after just 4 games in a rookie season with a team that won 2 games last year, people are going to the won loss card come on? Maybe its because they said he couldn't pass and he's proving them wrong

The hate for this guys is unreal, if he wasn't in the Saints division, I would really be rooting for him

I think Romo is an even better example than Cam. Romo is a huge scapegoat because he is the Cowboys QB.

He is always blasted despite being one of the better QB's in the league. I like a lot of the hated players in sports, such as Romo, A-Rod, and Lebron (actually neutral towards him), because they far outperform their criticism.

wait a second Romo can be blamed for the losses because he is directly causing them

At least Romo has a track record. Its one thing to say a guy that has been a starter for years can't win the big one or has meltdowns, I disagree, but at least there's a body of work, but a rookie in game 4?

To an extent. Yes, he made bad plays and the other team capitialized, but some blame yesterday has to be on the coach.

This. Also Romo is in year 9. Year 5 as a starter. CN is 4 games into his career with practically no traing camp. Starting a rookie used to be unheard of. The fact that he is as productive as he is with 1 year of Major College experience is ridiculous.
Going to be real interesting to see if Gary Williams can slow him down with his creative defensive schemes.

Sports fans are too results-oriented, the process is underappreciated. It is a lazy argument, but it is commonly done. Championships tend to be the end all, be all for a lot of people, even though they claim they do not use it as the only argument.

I do not really know how Cam can even be remotely criticized for what he has done. He is playing fantastic. So what if the Panthers are 1-3 right now? They were 2-14 last year and it is not like anyone thought they have a chance to win more than 4-6 games.

He has put up great numbers in three games and played in a pool for the other game, so it is pretty much impossible to put up big numbers in that weather. I think he has been terrific.

By the way, you can root for Cam 14 games a year. What is the big deal? His impressive season can only help widen the gap between the Saints and the rest of the division (at least this year).

Exactly, he looks way ahead of the curve. As a prospect, I was unsure about him, but i thought Carolina made the right call to take him because of his upside.

Only if the Saints go 14-2

With Ryan, Freeman and Newton, could be a rough division for the Saints once Brees slows down. But I do hope he does well.

I meant this year. The Saints look to be one of the four top teams in football, IMO. Definite SB contender.

Well said. It's convenient and easy and takes no effort whatsoever so it's a good go-to for the lazy and ill-informed. Plus the "ring-counting" crowd has attached some kind of romanticized machoness to their lazy argument with quotes like "you're only as good as your record", etc.

Oh, thought you meant down the line. I will definate pull for Carolina a lot this year just as a spoiler if nothing else. Not that I was going to root against him, but I do hope he suceeds now.

1 part LSU Fans
1 part people who want to see him fail to thump their own chests for being right

Why so many people here hate Cam.

I'm all these things and I'm not ashamed to say I dislike Cam and want him to fail. What I'm not willing to do is knowingly lean on a stupid, ignorant, and/or facetious argument to try to prove my point. Much to my chagrin, he's been nothing short of spectacular so far.

I loathe Cam Newton, and wouldn't shed a tear if he tore every ligament in his knee on the same day that Auburn's NC was stripped, but even I think the dude is fricking tearing it up. He's playing at a level I've never seen a rookie do, and he's already playing better than half the starting QBs in the NFL. Sure the Panthers are losing, but they were the worst team last year for a reason. They're way more competitive and will probably win 5-6 games this season, most of those solely because of Cam.

People do not like being wrong.

The only think they hate more than being wrong is being proven wrong.

If he won 12 super bowls in a row and had a passer rating of 456, people would say he did not sell enough hot dogs in the concession stand.

Get use to it. It is just more enjoyable watching them continue to be wrong...
