Fascinating behavior

The cream of the crop American female athlete does not chose tennis. That’s what doesn’t make sense to me.

Now I agree that a parent should get any child into sports it should be tennis… it’s almost a yearly income based on performance. But some want to do other things instead of tennis.. that should not be a knock on them as you are suggesting.

Let’s talk college scholarships as well if you want. There are open tryouts at P5 schools every year as well for full ride scholarships for women’s tennis

If you are an athletic female your success rate for 100% free college is guaranteed if you choose tennis, and your potential for pro is also not all that low

The knock isn’t on the child, it’s on the USTA and their lack of ability to make this awareness so freaking glaring it can’t be ignored by parents and others that monitor youth sports

Wrong considering even first round picks get cut in the wnba on a regular basis. Odds of being a wnba player and being on the tennis circuit probably aren’t much different

Feel like tennis and golf are the sports for kids especially girls to be in.

haha apparently. and 70 years ago everyone shouldve went into boxing.

I dont think he is considering the fact that the womens basketball game is growing.

the warriors just paid $50 million for an expansion team. with players like Clark entering the league salaries will go up.

the Seattle Storm is valued at over $150 million

The WNBA only runs because the NBA props it’s up. The league would have folded and would fold even now if they pulled their money.

Even if it is growing which is mostly due to being propped up by the NBA and others inflating fake interest it’s still so far behind the other sports.

Its like how soccer has been the fastest growing sport in the us for like 30 years and all that growth with almost zero to show for it

bad example. MLS has Messi now

quote:

Forbes’ 2023 list of most valuable soccer clubs rightfully highlights European giants Real Madrid and Manchester United — each of which surpassed the $6 billion mark for the first time — but also includes three Major League Soccer teams in the top 20 after none last year.

LAFC ranked 17th on the list and first among its domestic rivals with a $1 billion valuation. That puts the defending MLS champions just below Serie A stalwarts Inter Milan ($1.03 billion) and above Premier League clubs like Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.

The LA Galaxy ($925 million) were just behind their Southern California counterparts in 18th, while Atlanta United ($850 million) was 19th.

Four other MLS teams made the list of 30 clubs — NYCFC, D.C. United, Toronto FC, and Austin FC, with the lowest valuation coming in at $680 million.

The MLS still isn’t a serious league. I hate shitting on it but it gets the stars once they are done.

Messi is a step in the right direction as he has more gas in his tank than the other famous guys that came over.

For our “30 years of fastest growing sport” we have moved American soccer to a bloated professional league that is way behind others and we have managed to make Mexico our bitch. So it’s nice progress and better than the wnba has managed but it’s a extremely low and slow return.

when we're talking about money why wouldn't we talk about the 25th highest paid? can't cherry pick your argument. his entire argument is based on making more money

I think womens basketball sucks. I only watched the LSU-Iowa game this entire year. But to act like EVERY female athlete should just play tennis is a nonsensical position.

there would be the same amount of women making money in professional tennis as there are now either way.

The backlash to women’s basketball is probably driven by a lot of the media pushing it and inflating interest.

It also doesn’t help that a team of 16 year olds could mop the floor with the wnba all stars

I get it. but there are already thousands of womens tennis players that don't make shite and dont qualify for the US Open.

Why does OP feel like we need 10x more? there's only so many spots to go around. I'm not sure being freakishly tall is great for tennis players anyway. Federer was what? 6'0"?

Yeah tennis is great if you’re Djokovic… for most others it’s a bad bet and beats up your body for little to no reward

That figure has been out awhile now and it is grossly exaggerated. 90% of the teams in the league analyzed for that valuation are NBA subsidized organizations. Same for the media rights deal the league has.

Finally, the following tells you all you need to know about the group of investors themselves

"Gilder and Brummel stressed the diversity of the investors — 11 have at least one woman involved, 25 percent of the groups have at least one member who identifies as LGBTQ and a third have someone who identifies as BIPOC."

The Seattle Storm funding triggering the valuation wasn't an investment, it was a donation to a cause.

Idiots….the WNBA loses masses amount of money. They can’t afford to pay players, much less stay in business. They are only in business because Adam Silver is a massive lib.
