Football hits have been highlights on news since forever. Asking these guys to turn off adrenaline is like ask a soldier to do so in the heat of battle. Some will cross the line into the unacceptable.
Quarterbacks should be down by contact. That would fix some of this. If you touch them the play is over.

I don’t think people would be arguing this was a heinous hit if the behavior afterwards wasn’t so unbelievably poor. If the defender popped up and showed concern consensus would be closer to “tough call, he really slid late”
I also don’t understand how you don’t retaliate if you’re Oregon. You have to earn at least one ejection on your way out. Bitchmade

The slide wasn't late, and it wasn't a situation where there was nothing the defender could do.

Only did it because of press pressure. Pretty hollow words especially based on actions after it happened. LR allowed him on the sidelines waving a towel and celebrating too. Apologies mean nothing only done to appease, but not meaningful
