Please stop with this 6/8/12 team playoff nonsense. It would COMPLETELY ruin and dilute the regular season. Non conference games would be meaningless and you would have teams resting starters at the end of the regular season.

The 4-team playoff is enough to insure against disasters like 2003, 2004 and 2008.

This is a fresh topic and will undoubtedly stop the talk for an 8 team playoff.

It isn't and this didn't need it's own thread when there is another one already going.

So you want meaningless non-conference games and teams resting starters?

90% of CFB games are meaningless right now. If you expand it or put qualifiers on the entry into the playoff then your "meaningless" games go away.

So explain how you get a team resting starters?

What game will they do that in? If they lose a conference/division game, there is trouble of not making the CCG. If they lose the CCG they do not make the CFP.

I do not understand your argument.

So how do we know a team from the SEC is best over a team from the Big XII if neither go on the road OOC, in a true road game? That is what this 4 team has led to.

1. Georgia could rest starters against Georgia Tech. It would be a meaningless game in an 8-team playoff.

2. Bama could rest starters against Auburn.

3. Ohio State could rest starters against Michigan.

They wouldn't be any more meaningless than they are now.

Case in point, Ohio State got it's arse beat by OU but if the playoff teams were selected today there is a very real chance that they are in and OU is out.

Which would be stupid of them to do b/c they are not guaranteed to win their title games or get a wildcard slot.

If they lose they drop and yeah.
Therefore your "meaningless" game theory just has been debunked.

Now the goal is to win your conference. So Alabama and Ohio St will still need to win.

Right just like the 4 team playoff did.

False. If we go to an 8 team playoff, you can bet that the 5 P5 champions will be guaranteed slots.

As they should be. Since they did what they are asked to do. But seeding is important.

I think this playoff has confused people. The playoff should determine the National Champion not who the best team is. Those are entirely different subjects. The committee has not defined what this is either, which makes it even worse.

So you're OK with meaningless games involving contenders, teams resting starters and 8-4 teams making the playoff?
