Men’s tennis players at SEC schools are getting paid over 100k per year now in cash. It’s batshit insane and has ZERO to do with worth.
Link?

It doesn’t exist.
The women’s tennis players are getting 75k a year. It’s absolutely a clown world
Wake Forrest spent over 400k on their men’s tennis team NIL this year alone.

Athletes made exactly $0 from league revenue last year so comparing it to the nfl where league revenue is split based on an agreement, in in fact, not at all how it works
I take everything I said back. Maybe you are 12 because that is not what you were supposed to take away from my argument at all. That either speaks to youth or a lack of intelligence.

He made a lot off of his likeness more than a decade later with a Netflix documentary, yes

He directly compared league revenues per player and used it to deduce value

Pride is absolutely arguing the players have “inconsequential” value
And Pride is correct. College football fans don’t tune in/buy tickets to see players. They do that to see the scarlet and silver of Ohio State, the orange and blue of Auburn, or the burnt orange of Texas.

The dumbass even brought up Nebraska to try and make his point
He brought up a school that sells out every single game over the last 20 years and still has a top 10 brand even though they have sucked to prove his point it isn’t about the school

Exactly! Hence why I'm saying these players in college football who are currently making money in the millions of dollars are being absolutely overpaid based on the revenue the conference as a whole is bringing in. In the FBS, college football players are WAY overvalued.

And it has always been about the school for the fans. State pride is where it's at. While the players play a role in that, they are not the most important part of the program.

Here is the thing. The NCAA was a private institution with rules for its members.
Nobody was forced to be an NCAA athlete. If Manziel or anyone else ever thought their value was worth more they were free as an American in the great country to not be a member of the ncaa and go make all the money they want on their brand
I have no clue how anyone argues the government stepping in here was good
In the end, it will negatively effect 1,000s of more young athletes than it will ever help.

What are yours?

And (even before NIL) these programs would recruit a 5 star from California over a 4 star from Alabama and pay an ace recruiter $10,000,000 a year to seal the deal on elite prospects.
But yeah, state pride and all.

Well, stare at this picture for three hours every fall Saturday.

Yeah, state pride. They're playing for The University of Alabama are they not? That's a crimson and white jersey they have on, is it not? While they may not be from the state of Alabama they have come to Alabama to play for Alabama. At the end of the day, it's still bragging rights for the state. Is it cooler if the star player is from the state of Alabama? Yeah. But it's not necessary.

They don’t play for Alabama because it’s Alabama. They play for whatever furthers their own interests. All the 5 star studs that Saban signed wouldn’t have been there for Shula.

If that helps you feel better. I don’t know what the hell anyone is bragging about anyway. We have NIL because fans care way too much about a bunch of college kids playing football.

Okay. And...?
My point still stands. They put on that crimson and white uniform, they play for Alabama, and win for Alabama.

It does. Regardless of their motivations, they are playing for the college football program I have loved since my brain started making memories.
