RCR 21. And it seems like we could have a Riggs in a #10 Dodge next year. Like 20 years ago.

From Sportskeeda, quoting Adam Stern quoting Steve O’Donnell from Sports Business Journal:

NASCAR is reportedly exploring future Cup Series schedule options beyond its current media rights deal, with discussions including potential international races in Canada, England, Asia, and the Middle East.

You can stick to your roots and innovate at the same time. I love the idea of a little international expansion.

lulz

The dumbassery at the top of NASCAR has become too deeply rooted for me to ever hope that NASCAR can make any sort of comeback.

Going to other countries is just dumb. The bottom 10 non chartered teams would skip. You would lose even more US fans from a dwindling pool as races would be at shitty hours. The travel costs would be enormous.

Nascar leaders are fricking brain dead. Fix the damn car first and foremost. And find out why you allow Toyota to have a massive advantage. Oh, I guess the rumors of backroom court deal are maybe true.

All the current problems with series and they want to go overseas lol. Clown world.

This may be part of it but I’d bet its also the HP and a bigger super secret spacer too.

Heard nothing about this, the Nascar press folks are all shite and shills for Nascar too. No one badmouths or contests them unless in court. This only got released because they wanted to but no one talked about it on TV or media.

Amazing how fewer “post race take back to Nascar shop and tear downs” there are this year. Its like if they don’t bring them back then Toyotas can cheat longer with no one noticing and pad stats to build playoff points.

One great reply from someone that knows his aero:

John E Gatliff II
@LawyerGatMAREJD

Interesting. @ToyotaRacingUSA was allegedly flexing down the splitter/undertray to seal to the tracks, it would seem. A narrower gap between splitter and track also increases the pressure differential between the stalled air over the splitter and the fast-moving air below it (pressure being inverse to air speed).

Whether or not that’s #Toyota’s obvious advantage in 2026, or part of it, remains to be seen. But Toyota plainly has an aerodynamic advantage over @FordRacing’s teams in 2026.

How it took @NASCAR essentially half the season to find this is most mysterious indeed.

I’ve been preaching that Toyota is cheating all season long. And Nascar let them. Intentional? Did Nascar secretly tell them they could do this at start of season?

Nascar issues components to teams. Seals that can’t be broken. And yet this went on all year?

There are more cheated up parts. Question is will we ever find out what they are?

The leaders are fricking crooks and sheisters. No doubt they made a backroom deal to settle court case.

Going to another country to showcase one of the top racing series isn’t dumb at all. They have a broader reach now than ever.

And I’m sure teams wouldn’t be responsible for all travel. NASCAR handed teams a container for Japan 30 years ago. Have to imagine they’d do same for shipping.

Mexico City is actually a shorter drive from Charlotte than Sonoma. Montreal and mosport are much shorter.

NASCAR isn’t trying to be the formula 1 of stock car racing. There is an appetite globally to bring nascar to certain places.

I don’t see it happening more than once a year. But if once a year is too much, I’m not sure what to tell ya. We just won’t agree.

Mexico City example is wrong. You forgot to factor in Customs/border that takes a long time to get thru vs driving to Cali. I didn’t like them doing that one but can at least understand Mexico or Canada but not overseas or SA.

I just don’t agree to globalize the sport. Not until they fix existing problems. And even then no. I don’t give one rats arse what someone in Europe thinks or says about Nascar. It’s a US sport and comparing to F1 is apples and oranges. They have been an international sport forever.

Think about the non charter teams and even the low funded charter teams. Most of their crews fly in on weekends and it’s why Nascar shortened race schedules to help save costs for crews spending extra days at venues. Most of those teams can’t afford it. And money aside their crews have jobs they can't take off for a week to go overseas. Some would say no as well.

I can watch V8 Supercars or F1 or many other series if I want to see overseas races. I have zero desire to see Nascar do it. Even NFL as popular as they are struggle with issues of it and they have 100’s times more money and resources than Nascar. I have yet to watch an NFL game overseas.

Nascar leaders are just braindead. At one time they bragged at being as popular as NFL lol.

Seth Eggert
@SethEggert91

Has the 2026 @NASCAR season felt a bit strange or weird?

Last year there were 7 Oddities at this point of the season. We're already at 27 for 2026, over a threefold increase in funny, strange, and/or weird events at the track.

Chase needs a new CC, 1 top 10 in last 10 races is flat out bad for the resources they have. Alan has to go

There are ways to make it work. Especially if there is local money willing to help subsidize.

Customs can be a pain. But at least now they have more of an idea of what to do.

They can make it work with the schedule they have. Now anywhere in Eastern Europe or middle East it would be tough for tv. But they can run the races in Australia/New Zealand/Japan and Western Europe and South America in a window that works for the east coast/central time zone. Where most of their fan base lies.

I’d rather sacrifice the clash and all star weekend to make an overseas round work.

Last time I checked, nascar really does not care to help open teams. So they really wouldn’t do much to help those anyway. So as long as the money is there to get the chartered teams there, they’ll do it. Sorry to guys like BJ and Carl Long. NASCAR isn’t really interested in helping teams that don’t show up every weekend.

Though I can see them making an exception for RFK since they’ll show up every weekend next year with the 60.

I’ll stand on the opinion of one overseas round being ok. Much like 6 road courses a year. I won’t be convinced off of it.

We will never agree on this. I would never watch any overseas race. I already boycott the Prime races out of principle. There is zero gain for me the fan in an overseas race.

Nascar ruined their market here by over-chasing younger fans who are not loyal to the sport. And chased away over 80% of their core fans. And TV ratings prove this when you compare to 1/15/20 years ago.

The 20% they have left is hanging on by a thread. Go overseas and you start losing them. And if as you say they only do one race then what's the gain? Those overseas filks aren’t going go follow the series when they only have 1 race lol.

More to lose than gain.

Lol. Guess you gotta do you. Prime is fantastic broadcasting races. You are missing out.

Guess you didn’t hear the part about the Brazil series and euro series virtually selling out almost all of their events. Those countries have rabid race fans and will watch damn near any major series that comes to their turf. You can say what you want about non American drivers, but there isn’t a professional 4 wheeled racer that would pass up an opportunity to run a nascar road race.

SVG has brought nascar back to life for an entire continent. You don’t think Aussies and kiwis wouldn’t show up? They already travel to almost every race. Think they’d pass up a chance close to home? Nah.

We do agree on one thing that you said though. We will never agree on this topic. Lol.

FYI, nothing I say is directed at you. I’m glad you are one of the few we have left in Nascar thread who will discuss back and forth. Credit to you and some others who do so.

As for those other series they are based overseas not in USA. Of course they can have loyal followers there does not mean they follow Nascar. And yes they would love a Nascar race and sell it out. But again, that does zero for me the US fan. And it does zero for the teams.

You say those lower teams would just skip. Well, that proves my point and would be just another black mark in Nascar selling them out to strut their stuff for one fricking race. They lose out on money by going or lose out on money by not going. Nascar hates the smaller teams if they go overseas.

And thats how Nascar was made so popular. Bill Elliott came to tracks with a car on an open trailer. As did many others. Nascar was innovative and now its a clone car that can’t race.

Those other overseas series have actual racing you think they will be happy watching a parade? They might enjoy it solely for nostalgia sake but not for racing. And every team would be cautious due to limited parts and spare cars. Meaning they wouldn’t race hard.

I can’t find one redeeming quality of going overseas. It would only be done to stroke idiot Nascar owners egos and for them to make more money. At the expense of fans and teams.

I’m against the idea of racing overseas. Look in the mirror NASCAR. Why are you aiming to acquire new fans in other countries when you’re losing your loyal, core fans at a fast pace in the USA. If NASCAR had the same popularity of college football and the NFL, sure, go for it. It makes sense and it works for those sports. But we’re not them.

I don’t want NASCAR to be a global sport. Let’s get back to the regional roots of NASCAR and what made it great.

Also, I don’t see how racing in Madrid or Moscow would benefit NASCAR or its multiple teams at all. It would be an unnecessary headache imo.

I’ve been a fan since 97. I loathed the schedules up till 2021. I like seeing different types of tracks.

As the sport expanded out of the southeast, I’ve found that the hardcore has gotten out of touch.

I think some of that is NASCAR’s fault too. We’ve abandoned a lot of the types of tracks that built the sport. I think there is a way to get the grassroots back into the sport.

NASCAR and Indy are my favorite motorsports to watch, because they will mix it up. It’s not all roads. It’s not all ovals. I love supercars, f1, trans-am etc. but they don’t move the needle like the others do.

Selfishly, I’d like a 40 race schedule with 6 drafting tracks, 8 roads (including 1 street), 14 tracks a mile and under (including local short track and dirt), and 12 ovals longer than a mile.

Run doubleheaders at some tracks. Do away with clash and all star race. Make one of the road weekends overseas with a doubleheader. Alternate every other year between Mexico and Canada. Move the finale around. Make the finale a 1-1.5 mile oval.

I think given how nascar can pull off a street race, they can bring some temporary infrastructure to a local short track and a dirt track.

I know everything above is a pipe dream. But I may check out if we go back to a pre 2021 type schedule.

I think there is a way to have the best of both worlds.

I may be in the minority but I don't mind them being creative with the schedule. I won't attend those races anyway so they might as well try something. That being said...they absolutely have to fix this car. What will make me not tune in are the boring races where this car doesn't perform very well. Those seem to be more and more prevalent. I'm also on team "get rid of stage breaks." If you want to award points, go for it, let's not manufacture drama.

I will say that I am excited to see how the new chase goes. Hopefully the days of Joey Logano lucking into a championship are over.
