In 2012 F1 went behind a paywall in the UK. You want to talk about detrimental....

That is indisputable; Indycar is the National Driving Championship, which predates the World Championship (F1 ) by decades, but ultimately has always been US focused.

Anyone looking for a race to watch this weekend should check out MotoGP. Second race of the season this weekend in Brazil. 15 lap sprint race at 1pm on Saturday, 31 lap feature race at 1pm on Sunday. Both races should be on FS1.

In the first race of the season a few weeks ago, Aprilia ended Ducati’s streak of 88 podiums in a row.

In America.

Thats all US fans care about. Why would I be excited if another country increased F1 viewers? It effects me zero point zero percent.

One thing to note, it seems the US fans who turned off F1 are turning on Indycar. Check out how its doing thru 3 races, best in 18 years. Those fans cane from somewhere and my guess is F1

I’m betting F1 will survive Apple and bad regulations. America is a small part of the F1 world.

Some are. Most are not.

Indy finally got smart and didn’t have long gaps in schedule to start season. Still have too many and need more races but I hear they are working on that. They and Nascar gave an opportunity to get some viewers back.

Indy first 3 races 25 and 26

2025 first 3 races. St Pete 1.417 mil. Thermal 702k, Long Beach 552k.

Avg 841k.

2026 first 3 races. St Pete 1.39 mil. Phoenix 1.247 mil. Arlington 1.336 mil.

Avg 1.324 mil.

Indycar averaged 1.362 last year, F1 was at 1.320

F1 is not a US sport. Why is the argument around US viewership only?

No lie, Indycar would get my eyeballs a lot more if I didn't have to slog through the broadcast with commercials and, imo, subpar commentators. The racing is good. Consuming it is not.

Why do you care if the US increases viewership? How does that really impact you? Are you seeing kickbacks on the viewers?

Don't know about all that.

F1 hits right in the US in part because you can be a fan and not dedicate a lot of time to it. F1 can have too many races at for some if those fans

Not to mention Indy races middle of the day and F1 appeals to a lot of people because you watch while having your coffee then go about your day.

Love waking up and watching a race at 7am. Doesn't impact the rest of my Sunday.

The cinematic shots, beautiful women, exotic locations, and A list celebrities help the show as well.

It's labeled as a traveling circus for a reason

The only reason f1 doesn’t have commercials is because they gave their TV rights away for free to ESPN and were able to get Mothers Polish to sponsor the telecasts with a sweetheart deal

Someone recently did the math and it would take around $150M+ for Indycar to do the same, which isn’t economically feasible

Until that ESPN deal every race on Tv had commercials , they’re a necessary evil.

Where are the same people saying commercials is preventing them from watching college football

It would take half the value of Indycar to sponsor TV for a year?

Apple is getting a hell of a deal then.
