Canadian GP head to head with Indy 500 and one behind a paywall....
This will be brutal for growth of the sport.

f1 just wants the money. doesn't seem like they are thinking towards the future.

Liberty looking to flip it maybe?

Should be the highest watched F1 race of the year if it’ll be on Apple TV and Netflix at the same time right?

Should be, but will be going up against broadcast Indy 500...
I cannot believe that F! put itself behind a paywall in the US. I'll watch F1 until May when my 50% off Apple TV promo expires and then after that, I'm out... Don't need another streaming service billing me.

But the broadcast of the Indy 500 sucks arse. I can't stand watching it despite loving the race. Awful direction. Awful commentators. More than half the race is commercials.

ESPN is a paywall too.
Was carrying $85/month YouTubeTV to watch F1.

ESPN isn’t free

Come on, you know what I meant... ESPN is on EVERY cable provider and ABC owns them, which means OTA broadcasts of 4-5 races a year.

To get full ESPN broadcast for F1 you had to pay for it. I loved the ESPn broadcast so I wasn’t happy when it went to AppleTV I wasn’t happy. After seeing the layout that Apple has come up with I’m kinda getting excited. It’s a great layout that is very easy to navigate. Hopefully the race broadcast are good. The practice broadcast were good, but it was F1TV and not Apple

Apple is also giving the option to watch the sky sports feed for all the crofty fans.

What are you talking about?
Of the 18 or so races that weren't on ABC, 75% of them were on ESPN and the others were on ESPN2 or ESPNNEWS.
I didn't have to pay a dime more than my normal YoutubeTV sub to see every single race
90% of F1 Viewers aren't going to watch it on F1TV, they are going to watch the broadcast, which now is behind a paywall of another streaming service. Hell, I had F1 TV 2yrs ago and only used it a handful of times for practices that weren't broadcast. Didn't even use it last year.

I’ve had and enjoyed apple+ for a couple years now so this change doesn’t really affect me as long as they continue to show the races commercial free. I think they are offering a 7 day free trial for the first week of the season.

I’m talking about the full experience, not just the race

Let the Apple system play out. I’m optimistic this will be pretty good. I think perhaps a few early mistakes but I’m guessing they make it work.
ESPN rather via cable or not is just as expensive.

I was happy with ESPN.
Apple so far has been good
We shall see how they do for the races

Everyone with an Apple sub needs to register over on F1TV, download multiviewer, and watch the races that way.

And you have to pay for it now via AppleTV sub... Whereas the majority of people who would watch races on ESPN, which was already included in their normal television subscription, will have to add another service to watch ANYTHING F1 now.
ESPN averaged 1.3m viewers per race last year. Will be interesting to see what Apple gets.
F1 doesn't give a shite at the moment bc Apple paid up, but they may have cut off their nose to spite their face. Putting the product behind another sub will more than likely lead to less viewership and the dying off of momentum they got out of DTS.

Y'all tell me how it turns out. Not getting another subscription just to watch. I suspect I am not alone, so expect their US viewership numbers to drop sharply.
