Well, there you go.

Yeah. Sprints are pretty half-assed. They’re great in person though. Hard to believe this is the last sprint of the year.

F1 viewership has plunged since move from ESPN to Apple TV

quote:

“The 2026 Formula 1 season may be going swimmingly for Kimi Antonelli and his Mercedes garage, but things aren’t going so well when it comes to the motorsport’s viewership numbers, according to data analytics firm Samba TV shared with USA TODAY. F1's U.S. viewership is down in its first season on Apple TV after it moved away from ESPN following the 2025 season. Most notably, the Miami Grand Prix’s household reach was down 68% this year compared to last year, while the Monaco Grand Prix was down 66%. Eight of the nine races analyzed this season have experienced household reach declines.” Excerpt From “F1 viewership has plunged since move from ESPN to Apple TV” USA TODAY LINK This material may be protected by copyright.

Haven’t read the whole article yet but this if the first I’ve seen of it.

The F1 announcers can never just shut their yaps and let you hear the cars. Ever second of every video they are jabbering nonstop like women.

Miami and Monaco were both televised on ABC last year.

I don't doubt that viewership is down. Viewership only matters if you are selling ads though. AppleTV gets direct dollars and F1 seems fine with capturing committed fans rather than casual fans.

I'm the biggest critic of the move to Apple TV and hated for it here, but...

Reach is different than viewership, is it not?

What are the viewership numbers? Anyone with half a brain knew they were going to drop like a rock going behind a paywall, but whats the actual viewership.

ESPN averaged 1.3m per race, whats it been for Apple? I'm guessing sub 1m thus far... hell, i'm guessing its 750k average since we haven't had Austin which will inflate the numbers.

I didn't read this article because there was a similar one a few weeks ago that said Austrailia was up, but other races were down.

Just like you said, there are different types of metrics to use for who F1 and Apple are trying to reach and what they judging from.

Liberty had to know the meteoric growth will eventually slow.

And its all speculation since Apple doesn't release viewership numbers. Need an Apple insider to release the info, especially since that SVP announced at Miami that viewership was above ESPN for the first couple of races.
