Maybe Jeff Gluck is intentionally lying to pimp his Nascar?
Real numbers:
1) NASCAR Cup (Prime Video): 2.097 million viewers
2) Formula 1 (ABC): 1.9 million race-only
So Nascar barely beat F1.
And he conveniently left off what the same Nascar weekend was a year ago.
And keep in mind Canada is a pretty bland F1 race plus the Nascar race was a new novelty which always captures extra eyes. And Prime is giving away viewership for free for the first month. And Nascar threw away 5 viewers to gain 1 viewer.

The Indy Car race doubled viewers over last year same race.
And I must reiterate - Nascar is not gaining all these young viewers. The way they present the stats is making most think that.
They chased away a huge older loyal fanbase and therefore what remains is younger - but a majority of those younger were already fans. It’s not gaining enough younger to make any negligible difference. It’s simple math games they are playing and most aren’t seeing it.

Assuming you speak truth ... then how do they start attracting younger fans, which is essential to the sport's survival?
I asked that question of folks on another board I frequent, a dedicated racing board that talks only about the sport, who were talking along your lines, bemoaning the fact that old, loyal fans are being driven away, What do you do to attract younger fans to ensure the sport's long-term survival?
Their consensus was it's not going to happen, it simply cannot be done, and that auto racing of all types is basically going to die as a major sport or hang around as an anachronism that's pretty much off the radar like boxing once the old, loyal fans are gone.
It denies reality that NASCAR is going to just sit around and let that happen.

I covered that in a post last week. Fix the car. Its never a smart business model to throw away your most loyal customers in any business. They are the ones who can help sustain during the down times.
Then when you fix racing you get fans excited about it and talk to other friends how fun it was. That also leads to more reporting about the sport both social media and reg media. You create many more can’t miss moments.

More difficult to pass on street courses!!!!!
If NASCAR wants to be in the Southern California market so badly, they should have just kept Fontana (which was actually a good race track that produced good racing).

The equivalent race last year was Iowa on Jun 18 (Mexico on Jun 15). It got 2.693 million viewers.
The problem with Prime is its only 5 races. Not worth hassle and it cost Nascar its most loyal viewers. Now once they finish Pocono thats it for Prime. But my guess is they won’t get some of the lost viewers back. And likely will lose some of the new young ones.
Keep in mind Fox increased viewers year over year for their first half of season. All that momentum is now gone, as Prime numbers are down big year over year. They are trying hard to pimp their young numbers but its fake math. Age goes down when you chase away older viewers, duh. But they are showing all these massive new young fan numbers because they don’t exist.

The more they try to be like F1 the more viewers they will lose. Street races are not Nascar.

I'm with you.
I don't see any possible way thay auto racing goes the way of boxing. It'll probably go back to a regional sport like it was before it exploded in the 90's, but I just can't see any scenario where it becomes obsolete. Americans' thirst for speed is just too addictive for that to happen IMO

Not understanding why they don’t keep the races on Network TV and just add the streaming service to it? Why kill off what worked in the past. If boomers can watch on TV and the younger generations can watch on streaming. Even have different announcers for each. Seems like it would add wealth to the sport.

I watched a little of the truck race at Michigan. He was 31st and they were following him like he was Dale Jr or Danica.
