Did everyone leave this thread?
Saw a video of the NHRA race yesterday. No one in the stands
Motorsports is definitely taking a hit in the fall. they are better shortening their seasons.

Nascar is dead if they don't go back to network TV.

This all started in earnest (this year) from that mid season Prime disaster. They lost a huge chunk of loyal fans who never came back. Xfinity gets close to Cup numbers these days

Its a long term trend. The racing sucks. And Nascar pimped Prime chasing younger fans who are not invested in strategies and will not watch a parade.

Go back and look at a decade ago. 2 decades. They have destroyed it.

You're preaching to the choir. I've been saying that for years.

This is 6th in a row where numbers are down big year over year. Its IROC, with no future because no one can engineer any speed due to too many rules.

Only fix is bigger motor and worse tires.

NBC had track and field on Sunday. What were the ratings on that?

I said back when they did Prime how awful that decision was and posters ridiculed me for it. I posted all the data in this thread how Nascar was pimping their “new” and younger fans and glossing over the 40% drop of their core demographic. I said then those younger “new” fans were way less loyal and would leave afterwards and old fans would never come back. And here we are watching it die

As a business you can never run off your most loyal customers. They give you free word of mouth advertising. You should work with them to find new customers while still keeping them happy.

Those loyal fans been saying forever the racing sucks and all these gimmicks are lipstick on a pig. Go back to season long points battle.

I read where Hamlin wrecked Gibbs (which I am glad someone wrecked that punk) and said he did it because he was racing for a title. Hamlin is another punk and saying that is whats wrong. This Chase crap has ruined the sport and the ones making it are saying the other racers have less value because they missed the chase. So 16 racers have value and 24 don’t.

Those 24 racers have fans too and now have nothing to race for because its widely known they are 2nd fiddle. Those fans stop watching. Now its down to 12 so 28 racers and their fans are in the way and have no value. Chase is bad for sport along with clown car.

They have to make drastic changes in everything to survive. I doubt they will.

Just saw Indy schedule for next year. March to Labor Day. 17 races, all on FOX.

That is how to do it.

Indy should have a Fox race every week Nascar does Prime. They would pick up all the loyal Nascar fans who boycotted Prime. Golden opportunity.

Season long points are on the table.

What they need to do is bring back bonus points for laps led and most laps led.

Increase winner by 15-20 over 2nd.

Stage breaks need to be fired into the sun. Let the race play out accordingly and award points that way. I’m fine with awarding “stage points” at halfway for the top 10. But don’t stop the action.

I like all of that but I think I'm getting my hopes up for nothing. Despite all this chatter I just find it hard to believe they're going to go back to total points.

What no one seems to remember is that before stage breaks, there was always the mysterious "debris" cautions to tighten the field back up. The whole reason NASCAR came up with stages was so they would quit catching shite from the fans and media for throwing fake cautions to tighten the field back up.

They knew their cars were shite and no one wanted to watch drawn out follow the leader races where no one could pass, so they built in the cautions into the product to make it a little more exciting for a few laps. The plus side is they get to run more TV spots and no longer have to deal with the criticism of phantom debris cautions.

I don't think they will ever get rid of stages and I'm shocked that they have not added more to tell you the truth, especially with how bad this car is at some tracks. They are not going to do away with them no matter how much we ask them to do so. They think it's a great band-aid on the gaping wound of the shitty racing product they are putting on lately.

All NASCAR has to do with their product is get away from this shite car, cut the spoilers down to nothing like in the 80's, run a narrow tire, give them more power and make the chassis less rigid so they can have some mechanical grip back along with actual chassis adjustments. On top of that, raise the front end of the cars off the ground about 3 to 4 inches so they are not depending on aero to pin the cars to the surface and let them race like real mean did back in the day.

But they just flat out refuse to do that. Instead they take power away, make the tires bigger and make the cars even more dependent on aero than before.

Bring back the air dam and the blade spoiler, and if they want to lay that spoiler down, let em.

Not necessarily against stages, however they should no be 5 laps long and count against the total lap count. Stage points do liven up the middle of the race action a bit.

This, this, this.

And, as OU suggested like many others; give more HP and softer rubber.

Make "drivers" actually have to "drive" and manage the car.
