It's an exhibition.

It's been run since the 70's, and it was run at Daytona to kick off Speedweeks for all the previous year's pole winners. It's looking like it's gonna move to Mexico City next year and I'm okay w/it. It's run it's course at The Colliseum.

Is it always such a short track?

No. Up until this recent version, it was always run at Daytona(the big track) 2 Sundays before the 500.

The Clash is gonna be run as a test for any experiment they want to try. I'm here for it.

Gotcha. I’ve watched the last 3 since getting into motor sports (since it falls during the no-man’s land of early February), and the short track has seemed so silly to me. I’m glad they may be moving it back to a real track.

Is the track in Mexico City a short track? I honestly don't know.

I just looked it up, it's a city road course.

Those are fun

Guadalajara is a possibility too. Looks like that's a road course too.

While we're at it, I'd love to see NASCAR go to another continent and have a DH weekend. Two points paying races. What's the point of going to a place like England or Australia for just one points race?

I’ve got to be honest. NASCAR is growing on me, and I’m sure I’ll watch a good bit this year, but the Clash was awful. What’s the point?

Short tracks used to be the best races in nascar. Then they got a wild hair and went crazy with the cookie cutter 1.5 milers.

Short tracks “require” you to move cars to advance (when you are faster). The trick is in how you move them and not cause them to wreck.

The old Clash was mostly a practice session for the 500 leadup and no one upset other drivers for the most part.

This new Clash had so many drivers pissed off at other drivers and the season hasn’t officially begun. It’s like preseason yet with anger. Those grudges will carry over to reg season so thats the only good thing about it.

So many short tracks in southeast could be used but nascar is catering to a “new” demographic these days while some great tracks sit idle.

Moving it to Mexico just takes the demo a step further. Imagine each team and the logistics of going to Mexico. It’s a huge pain in the arse for them just in customs inspections/entry/exit alone. And not to count the sky high crime in Mexico.

I don't have an issue. If F1 can be international why can't NASCAR?

Hard agree, but it needs to replace two road course races. We are in danger of having too many IMO.

If I want to watch mostly road courses, I'll watch IMSA or F1.

The budgets are light-years apart.

That's fair.

It doesn't hurt to try to grow the sport. Things change. Nothing ever stays static.

Personally, I'd like to see NASCAR go to 40 races, with about 6 DH weekends. I know that's a pipe dream, but if you did that, you'd get the following breakdown:

6 drafting tracks
8 road/street courses
13 short tracks
13 1.1 mile plus tracks

I'd be down. But I'm a NASCAR junkie.

The bigger teams would probably love it. Smaller teams, drivers, and employees would hate it. Its a pretty hectic schedule.

I would for sure enjoy it though.

$$$

Every team in F1 is vetted and has money to run teams. Nascar is different and encourages low funded teams to fill out the car count. Some teams can barely make races in US imagine the extra costs going even to Mexico. Pit crews as well, most of smaller teams use weekend warriors who hold full time jobs during the week.

It’s night and day different. If the sponsoring country pays them ok, try it. The problem is they pay nascar not the teams.
