Gustafson is a good CC. But every championship pairing eventually needs a split. Only question becomes where does Gustafson go and who takes over for Elliott? Fugle and Daniels aren't leaving their current drivers, and Blake Harris isn't leaving Bowman after 3/4 of a season.
If Gustafson becomes a free agent, Stewart-Haas needs to jump on it. They need fresh blood

Oh I agree. It seemed that when it went south, it was a precipitous drop.
Wonder who else is in the stable over at HMS to run a team? Maybe someone from JRM maybe?
ETA: See if you can pry Rodney Childers from the 4 team. He's the best in the business IMO. He makes chicken salad out of chicken shite and his strategy calls and adjustments are always on the money.

Childers appears to be staying with SHR for the foreseeable future. He and Berry are teaming up soon for some late model races to get their pairing started up and ironed out before next season.

All of them Gibbs too.
I always laugh at Gibbs cutting Joey loose.
I wish Eric Jones could have the same success.

I typed up a reply yesterday and hit submit and it just vanished with some type of board issue. Trying again.
I do think it might be good to change CC but at the same time it was a lost year. The worst part was losing the annual winning streak.
But nascar made a lot of car changes off season. He went out with broken leg pretty early in season and lost all that time to work on car to adjust to his style, where others had time. Even when back it takes time to readjust with a healing leg.
Came back and was just starting to do better and whiney tattle tell Hamlin got him suspended. (The power steering failure that cost Hamlin finals was karma).
So at this point he comes back from suspension and has to win to get in but is lacking the car and development time. Still ran pretty good but not enough to win.
So once playoffs started he was out of drivers but his car owner was in since the alternate drivers count for owners points. HMS 9 got in over 23 car (owners).
Then he did ok and made it to final 12 in owners. Not sure if they made final 8 owners but at that point the focus went to 5 and 24 and you can be assured shop resources focused on those 2.
Once they focused on 5/24 then both 9/48 were not getting their best cars as its expensive to engineer and bring top cars. So they just gave them average cars and focused on the final 4 cars of 5/24. I don’t put a lot of stock into the last 1/3rd of season due to how it played out.
I can see them sticking with Gus one more year. Chase likes him so that likely weighs in too. And with all the events it was a throw away year where HMS likely keeps Gus with 9.

A couple of takeaways for me on this graphic:
1. Clearly, Cup races going against football is a nonstarter; Cup viewership drops precipitously. All of the most watched races for Nascar, other than the Chicago street race, were Spring races on Fox.
2. I am surprised to see the Fontana race get such high numbers and just makes me even more mad that they are tearing that track down. Maybe the nostalgic element played into the high numbers this year (and the track itself had good attendance this year), but I really enjoyed going to that track and watching the races there. Tearing it down for a short track (if they build it at all), no thanks IMO.

I can't disagree w/any of this, especially:

Fontana used to be a sleep fest. It took years to weather the track in where it was racey. But like all tracks at some point they would have needed to repave and then it would have went back to sleepfest.
They are building a short track but with new pavement it too will take time to weather in.

Only open seats left in cup are the 10, 16, and one of the Rick Ware seats.
SHR is likely putting Gragson in the 10..... Other than funding this makes zero sense.
Kaulig is considering bumping Allmendinger back to Xfinity for Ty Dillon... That makes even less sense.
Rick Ware may just go with a revolving door for now in the second car.

Are you not familiar with the business side of NASCAR? Noah is getting the ride due to funding.

Been following since 97. Of course I'm familiar. I remember when teams hired the drivers they wanted. Instead of the biggest checkbook.
Noah didn't get this ride on talent. Cole Custer brings no funding. Neither did Zane Smith. Both were more deserving.
Noah put together one of the worst rookie seasons any of us have ever seen. And yet he's getting a better ride due to the checkbook. It's a problem.
